Re: New Baby

We can not control what other people do. And no one's perfect. We can let them know how we feel, but that's about it. Education is the most powerful tool we have available to us. Hopefully, if we educate people (and re-educate, sometimes), we can prevent issues from arising.

Re: New Baby

I think the original poster got the point. I am very glad that they took responsibility over the mistake as well. Now we can move beyond this.

What's the piggy's name?

Why on earth would you come HERE to brag about buying a petstore pig? If you wanted to celebrate why not go someplace where nobody knows the wrong you've done? A post like this seems like it's deliberately trying to provoke flames.

Re: New Baby

The fact he/she knows they have done bad makes it a whole lot worse.

Re: New Baby

I don't see why people keep reiterating the same thing over and over.

But I feel the need to ask...doesn't the guinea pig in the petstore deserve a good home too? Maybe it was better off being taken home by someone who knew about guinea pigs, as opposed to someone who isn't knowledgable about them. Maybe by them taking the guinea pig home, she was actually saving it.

Re: New Baby

We've had that argument repeatedly. You are not rescuing when you buy guinea pigs from pet stores, or any animal. You have to look at the bigger picture. You're supporting the cycle of abuse, neglect and abandonment, pet mills/ backyard breeders and pet stores that sell animals, and only adding to the cycle since the pet shop will order more from the pet mill to replace the one you bought.

The sows are backbred to death in poor conditions. Frequently the babies are taken away too young. Meanwhile, guinea pigs in animal shelters are euthanized.
Thank you rabbitsncavyluv for this useful post, says:

Re: New Baby

That's very true Rabbitsncavyluv to true I was just in a petstore we went there to get some dog food with my dad. I looked around there was no piggies is there usually was I looked around I finally found them in very small cages in a corner they all had tags saying up for adoption giving info on the pig gender, name and all that. I think that's a bunch of bull crap that's just there to make them look good and make them look like they care but do they? No only about the money that's all they care about. They are doing one good thing they have a computer which is on petfinder so you can browse but it's not really doing any good they have signs all over "think adoption first" but they really don't care. Now I'm not saying what you did as it was wrong but there's nothing we can do we don't control you or anyone. I'm not trying to flame you but next time your looking for a new pig please look at the bigger picture and rescue.

Re: New Baby

Okay, I understand that this is a pro-rescue forum. I bought my first 2 piggies from a pet store, and I just ‘couldn’t resist’ and also didn’t know better at the time. It’s hard, I just don’t go into petstores anymore because it is too tempting to buy them, and I know that helping the poor piggy in the store is hurting the greater good.

There is no reason to be so nasty though. We are adults here, and those that aren’t, don’t deserve to be talked down to. Poor attitudes are just going to discourage people from coming here, which will hurt ALL guinea pigs in the long run.

Re: New Baby

I'm really sorry If I was talking down to you because if I did I didn't mean to I was trying to settle this is a mature manner. Again I'm sorry I get quite fired up when it comes to animals. Even though the thing you did wasn't the best thing in the world you don't deserve to be talked down to. Oh make sure to tell me how it goes at the vet and if he's ok. Oh and on a happier note I hope to see some pigtures soon.

Re: New Baby

I'm female first of all. And second of all.. It would be great if we could drop it.

I did a bad thing, Check
I WONT do it again

I shouldn't have bought him, Check
I REFUSE to take him back, that would be even more irresponsible.

But for gods sakes. At a certain point all this ranting becomes annoying and boring. I atoned, I apologized, I saw what I did was very wrong and I not only internally recognized it, but outwardly admitted it.

Ok, I'm a cretin, a moron, a terrible..horrible person.

I'm whatever you want me to be if you just drop it.

To those who were kindly reminding me of what I did was very wrong, I appreciate said kindness and have taken serious note.

To those who refuse to drop it even AFTER the matter was settled...
That's your issue. Im not going to apologize anymore merely to appease you. Thanks again

Re: New Baby

Hey, don't apologize to us. We're not the pregnant sows at the piggy mill.

This thread has gone into a bashfest. EnigmaticCavi is aware that she's done a moronic thing, should have known better, needs to learn impulse control, etc. Enough reiteration.

EnigmaticCavi, I am closing this thread. Feel free to start another thread for your pig's medical problems that he is 90% sure to have soon.
