Is Pets At Home Improving? ( Pets At Home is basically Petsmart or Petco ) At Pets At Home they have finally seperated the rabbits and guinea pigs my putting a divider down the middle of the pens now making the pens even smaller. They also have an adoption centre with signs everywhere saying donait to rescue centres etc but they continue to sell animals! Sadly they have now got a "new attraction" a french lop Do you think the adoption centre is an improvement or not?

Re: Is Pets At Home Improving? A French Lop is a VERY large rabbit which needs at least a whole room to live in.

Re: Is Pets At Home Improving? I don't think slapping a bunch of "Adoption" signs around constitutes improvement if they are selling animals in the store.

Re: Is Pets At Home Improving? You're not by any chance talking about Pets at Home in Corstorphine are you!? I asked about their adoption pens- which used to be aviaries..thank God they stopped keeping birds- and the store clerk said they were rabbits that had been from pregnant rabbits in the store...or something like that. I don't understand why they are up for adoption and not sale? I should really write in and ask about that. Might try and find the manager and ask him next time I'm passing. I always check the hay and water bottles, and so far no major complaints, except that the guineas and rabbits are usually in together, and the water bottles are dirty looking from algae scum, most likley from vitamin supplements and lack of bottle brush cleaning. I don't think it's wise to have a rabbit for sale at £150! Anyone who's willing to spend that much would go to a breeder. Some idiot might buy it and keep it in a hutch- it wouldn't surprise me. The bunny will be there a while I reckon- or perhaps be transferred to another store to see if it sells there.

Re: Is Pets At Home Improving? It's not that store but it sounds the same! The Frenchie has to be castrated first, that is why it is so expensive, Which is okay, at least they won't have accidental litters.

Re: Is Pets At Home Improving? They've split at my local one now too, however I too have seen the giant rabbit in one of the stores. They also sell small indoor cages for the piggies or dwarf bun.

Re: Is Pets At Home Improving? My local one is no different. They haven't spilt up the rabbits and guinea pigs, infact they've made the pens even smaller. I went into Pets at home today, they had one rabbit left, the rest had been sold for easter! They have no adoption signs or anything like that, but thankfully they have stopped selling birds!

Re: Is Pets At Home Improving? Yeah your right, I just think it's a bit hippocritical, the way they are telling you to adopt whilst they carry on selling animals ( most of which are VERY ill or have some sort of parasite problem).

Re: Is Pets At Home Improving? I went to PAH today. I saw a French Lop too I guess they're everywhere. It had an information sheet next to it. It did say it made a good house rabbit, but also said it could live in a hutch outside. I wish I'd jotted down the measurements they recommended, I can't remember them now! They had quite large pens with very clean *woodshavings* in (I could smell the pine just standing there ) for the baby pigs. They had a bowl of pellets, some green water - I think there was drops in it - and their hay rack was totally out of reach. In the other pen were more pigs and one rabbit. Near the back of the store was a pen with 20 RABBITS IN!! Well that's how many I counted, give or take a few! I also picked up a leaflet about gp care. On the list of things to buy is a Mineral Stone, Vitamin Supplemnt and Probiotic Supplements?! At the till was a collection box for an adoption thing with a bunch of leaflets preaching adoption. They said they're launching a Charitable Foundation to support rescues doing the tremendous job of rehoming in the area. Well maybe if you stopped selling animals there wouldn't be so many to rehome . They make me so mad!! They're simply trying to make themselves look good to people who don't realise what's going on behind the scenes. It's kind of pointless ranting about this on the web, but what can I do. It's not like they're going to stop selling animals anytime soon. But it's kind of good becuase the adoption thingee raises money for the rescues. Arghh it's so annoying & confusing. Anyway I think I shall stop now!

Re: Is Pets At Home Improving? My local PAH has changed recently too, adding an "adoption" area etc. In the normal bit though they split the floor pens in half, but are still housing the rabbits and guinea pigs together. This struck me as totally pointless - still making the same mistakes, but now giving the animals even less room. I asked the guy at the till what was the deal with this "adoption" stuff and he couldn't answer - the people in charge just went and did it without even explaining it to their own staff. Guess I'll be emailing them yet again - please everyone else do the same. Tell them you won't shop there until they change their ways.

Re: Is Pets At Home Improving? The adoption thing is a farce. Next time I'm around P@H I will get a picture of the rabbit's adoption pen that says: I'm up for adoption because I'm now too old and too big to be sold in the Bunny Village. No, I'm not kidding either. Will give the full story when I get home from holidays.

Re: Is Pets At Home Improving? Yup, my local PAH has a giant lop rabbit, and all the bunnies that got preggers and were then too old to be sold in the pens are up for 'adoption' but the guy I asked at the till didn't seem to know a lot about it and there are no signs saying anything about adoption.

Re: Is Pets At Home Improving? The PAH in Belfast is handing out "Support Adoption" leaflets with every purchase but I saw no other "pro-adoption" things in the store. There were no pigs in this time either. Probably just sold out until they get more "stock" in.
