Re: Argument I hate to say it Sollyrules, but I agree with the others here. Breeding from guinea pigs can be very dangerous as they are only small creatures to begin with. Especially with the high risk of the babies being to big to be born naturally - I think what I am trying to say is that guinea pigs have very small fragile hips and think about if one of the babies is too big to enter the world naturally...the other babies could die in the womb, possibly causing the mother to die if not taken to the vet IMMEDIATELY. Now I don't care if you don't like the sound of that, and if you want to delete me off your forum, then in all honesty I don't care! I agree with the people here and think that Masher has made a very good point of putting this on here and I shall support her and the other people's opinion on here. Mweekie! ![]()

Re: Argument See, hon, there is no such thing as being rescue friendly AND breeding. They are the exact opposites. Rescue friendly people RESCUE pigs that people like you breed and then either abandon or sell to pet stores. Visit a rescue and see what happens to them there!

Ok, so to look at this objectively Sollyrules, and I'm not being sarcastic in any way although if you approach this post expecting it you may think I am, but I'm not. I'm just looking at what you have said so far in my understanding. Here is what I understand from your situation. You want us to change our minds about you and get to know you? This is what I have to go on: 1) You are a minor according to the moderators, and you've mentioned that your mother won't allow you to rescue a pig. Presumably this is because she doesn't want you to have any more. The fact that she's told you she will only maybe let you keep the babies is usually a parent's way to get you to stop bugging them. She will most likely say no to you taking in baby guinea pigs. The fact that you are a minor is relevant here because you have little or no genuine control over the future of your guinea pig. What if you were allowed to keep some of the babies and your Mum refused to pay for their vet treatment or refused to take you to a vet with them? 2) Your 'friend' that has the sow is actually a breeder and you are providing a stud. Why are you providing a stud? If she has bred from her guinea pigs presumably she has her own boars? For our information, what do you define as a correct age for a sow to be bred and how long ago was her last litter? And what are the dangers of breeding as you understand them? 3) You said you are like people on this forum except that you support rescuing and breeding and yet you said that you hate to see mistreated guinea pigs. Fine, you support rescuing and breeding, but you have to admit that the main cause of mistreated pigs is because people buy them from breeders and pet shops and then neglect or mistreat them. You can't stop those people, but you ARE willing to contribute to the guinea pigs who end up in pet stores. On the other forum you said that the breeder can't house any more pigs so the babies from the litter you want to create will be given away/sold to a pet shop. This is the major problem that people on this forum have with your reasoning as far as I can tell. There just isn't any logic to it. You haven't mentioned anything else about keeping some of the babies, but even if you kept some, the lady can't house the ones that would be left. You said they would be given away/sold - but who to? Anyoneover 16 can walk into a pet shop and buy a guinea pig. There are no laws that say they have to buy a cage and supplies at the same time. They could keep it in a shopping basket in their cupboard and feed it smarties and no-one would know. They could feed it to their pet snake. They could put it in a microwave for sheer entertainment. They could attach it to a firework like those idiot kids who sellotaped a hamster to a rocket and filmed it with their mobile phone just for fun. The list goes on and on. My point is that once you give away or sell those baby guinea pigs you have no control over their care or who they end up with. If you placed them with someone you thought would take good care of them, that person might soon grow bored and want to give them away. There are always lots of adverts in newspapers by people who want to sell/give away guinea pig, complete with cage, because their kids got bored of it. This brings us back to what you said about being rescue friendly. Some mistreated guinea pigs end up in rescues, many more are not so lucky. They live miserable lives in hutches at the bottom of gardens, neglected. You would not want them to suffer that, but you are happy to create more of them to go to such homes. Pet stores will always have a supply of guinea pigs without any need for you to sell them some more. Please explain why you and the lady who cannot house any more guinea pigs are deliberately making more which you will have to get rid of by giving them to strangers? This is why you have no good reason for breeding. The things I said above are just some of the reasons why not to breed in your case. So that is what I know about you from your posts. I can't change my mind about you until you give an explanation in reply to the points I have made. I personally don't think you can really argue with me on them, but feel free. I really am genuinely confused as to why you are breeding and yet hate to see mistreated pigs. It is a cycle. Parent gets pigs for child -> child gets bored -> pigs are neglected and not cared for properly -> pigs get rehomed or left to live out their lifespan as an annoyance, maybe relocatde to a shed where they are easily forgotten about. If they are rehomed the cycle repeats itself or the pigs are treated worse, if they are not rehomed they are neglected as a life sentence. Ok, so you said we don't know you. Tell us exactly why you are breeding. This is your chance to change our opinions of you. Last edited by VoodooJoint : 04-04-07 at 10:46 pm. Reason: fixing quote tag |

Re: Argument I realize that sollyrules is banned but I hope she is still reading the stories here about the piggy found in a 5 gallon glass jar or the ten piggies who just got rescued who have mites and lice and missing toes. I hope your Mom finds out what you're up to and doesn't let you have another pet until you GROW UP. My daughter who is ten is ever so much more mature than you are and so are most of her friends. Most young people are compassionate and responsible. Why are there some that have no regard for any living thing other than themselves? Last edited by Ly&Pigs : 04-08-07 at 01:16 pm.

Re: Argument I got bored and googled up the thread all this is taking place in. Sollyrules is providing her boar to a friend (also a child) who has a sow. The friend's mother apparently takes total care of the sow (bet she'll be happy to know her kid is breeding more pigs for her to care for!). The whole thread just disheartens me. And I'm especially pissed off at the 'adult' in that other forum who tells the kids to completely ignore anything they don't agree with and tells people like masher to keep their opinions and advice to themselves-even if it's truthful and accurate-because to keep repeating it is ignorant and rude. Thank heavens for this board and the rescue community in general who'll NEVER 'keep their opinions (and the truth) to themselves' even if it appears no one wants to hear them.

Re: Argument And where did her first pig come from? A pet store, i'm assuming. That pig wasn't 'her own'. Therefore it's a chain of pigs that aren't from 'her own' pig. It makes no sense at all. I just hope her parents knock some sense into her stubborn head.
