| Why do we not believe in breeding and buying? The reason is Albert Fate of a dog in an Atlanta animal shelter The reason is Charlie Fate of a dog in an Atlanta animal shelter The reason is also the thousands of nameless victims of an overpopulated world. Many people say, some choose to rescue, others choose to breed. We should get along and accept that. The truth is some people rescue because others choose to breed. Have a heart and do what you can to stop the killing and neglect -don't breed -spay and neuter -make a lifelong commitment to your pets -don't buy your pets. Save a life and adopt. |

And then there's people who say "but I keep all of the pets I breed, so I'm not adding to the problem." I really wish some people would open their eyes and realise the severity of their actions. |

| Re: Why do we not believe in breeding and buying? Spaying (for a female animal) and neutering (for a male animal) is a procedure that makes the animal infertile (they can't have babies). It's usually not very expensive, and there aren't any big risks for a healthy animal. It's a small step everyone who owns a pet can take to prevent more overpopulation, and keeps the animals you already have safe and healthy. |

| Re: Why do we not believe in breeding and buying? Also, spaying and neutering can prevent some behaviors that people don't like. Behaviors that sometimes mean the animal is sent to the shelter, even though they're normal due to the hormones. Spay/neuter can prevent male cats and rabbits from spraying urine, female cats from going into heat (loud yowling and escape attempts), and reduce aggression. Many areas have low-cost spay/neuter programs though shelters and rescue groups, so there really is no excuse. |

| Re: Why do we not believe in breeding and buying? Another thing to be considered are the people who get the animals and so easily dump them. I think that they are even more at fault. |

| Re: Why do we not believe in breeding and buying? Quote: However, my boyfriend and I did adopt two kittens who were found in a dumpster at 3 days old. Our bunny was found in the middle of the street driving home from school, and although we put of flyers, no one ever claimed her. So we kept her, though I think she deserves a better life. Her cage is far too small. We have two cats, one that we adopted from a friend's cat who had babies, and another we got for free that we found in a newspaper ad. My Dad bought a cockatiel from a petstore for my mom as a present, needless to say that was a bad idea. We still have her, but she never comes out of her cage. All of our dogs were bought from breeders (except for one which we adopted from a family that no longer wanted him because he was a runt and they wanted a show dog), as they are purebreds and my Dad's favorite dog, Akitas. After watching this I feel rather guilty. I know that I've done my part more than most people, having adopted two kittens who were near death, but there is room for improvement. When my boyfriend and I get married and move out into a house, we will adopt a puppy. We also plan on adopting two guinea pigs when he gets his apartment this summer. |

| Quote: That movie made me cry, and I'm still crying. Sometimes I feel horrible for being a human. Most people don't care in this world. If they did, they would stop stuff like this from happening. It is very sad. A lot of people say stuff about saving the planet, animals, etc., yet barely anyone listens. Last edited by MCR_Rox : 02-18-07 at 08:35 pm. Reason: adding |

It is very sad. I feel like that a lot, Landhermie. Even among my family and friends, who are caring people, I feel like I'm the only one who's REALLY affected by this kind of thing, and I often wonder if I'm just too sensitive. I've come to avoid saying anything at all when issues about animal welfare come up, because I sense that everyone expects me to "freak out", and I know that they can't understand why it would bother me so much. Hopefully it will make you feel a little better to know you're not alone in the way you think and feel. |

I feel like that a lot, Landhermie. I often feel like the odd one, and sense that most people don't care as much as I do, or that people can't understand why it would bother me so much to hear about animal suffering. Hopefully it will make you feel a little bit better to know you are not alone in the way you feel. |
