Frying and selling of Guinea Pigs in chiago!? This is nuts. Why would anyone want to kill an innocent Guinea Pig just to eat it? Im surprised this hasnt gotten any bad comments yet.
Anyways, my 3rd grade teacher ate one and said it tastes awful.

I understand that guinea pigs are not seen as 'domestic' pets in some countries and they choose to eat them. It's the same as us eating cow meat.

However, this is in Chicago? Ugh.

Well first of they start of showing someone taking out a skinned guinea pig, then people selling them on the street. The drinks they serve look like toxic waste.

Why would anyone want to kill any innocent animal just to eat it? Killing a guinea pig for its meat is no different than killing a pig or cow for its meat.

In Peru and other South American countries, guinea pigs are a major source of meat. Just like how in Asian countries dog or cat meat is often sold. People here in America would never dream of eating a dog or a guinea pig or a horse or something, but how is it any different than eating a chicken or a fish? People here think eating "weird" meat is disgusting, yet they turn around and eat hamburgers and think nothing of it.

I'm not disagreeing with you. It's gross. I hate it. It makes me sick. Yet it's not the fact that they are frying guinea pigs that makes me sick, it's the fact that they are frying what used to be a living breathing animal, whether it be a guinea pig, a dog, or a cow. Just because it this video shows people frying cavies does not make it any worse than a video that shows someone frying chicken at a barbecue. If someone walked down the street in Chicago and saw a fried chicken stand, they wouldn't think twice. But because it is a guinea pig, it's suddenly "wrong." Sometimes people in this world are really messed up.

Anyways, I, too, flagged it.

Still, it is kind of the same as us eating cows... when you think about it.

They are considered to be food in other countries, especially South America. I just read an article about it in my Guinea Pig magazine. The article was all about where they came from etc. But you know, lots of animals we would never dream of eating is common place food in other countries. I know it hurts all of us to learn that this happens.

The big deal is that we are killing inncoent animals just for us to eat. For us to be happy. I mean I personally became a vegetarian last year and...I put it like this for people that try to understand why I did it. I say, "If you love animals so much then why would you turn around and eat them." So it's sad for any animal that has to suffer just for us to eat.

I feel it's important for people to see how other cultures view things differently. Some other cultures would call vegetarians crazy, but just because someone eats meat, it doesn't mean they're savage an barbaric.

While I can't say I'd be brave enough to try it nor do I understand why they are doing this in Chi-town, but around the world, there are many animals that we keep as pets and others make the main course. I've seen worse in my travels.

What animal doesn't have a soul? Or feelings? Or more to live for than just becoming dinner one day? We humans do stupid, stupid things. Heck my law school class is watching a murder trial. This guy is accused of killing his friend over a bottle of beer. A bottle of beer! We can't seem to treat other humans with decency, let alone "some dumb animal." It makes me lose some faith in humankind as a whole.
