Anyone see According to Jim tonight?

Now I think its great and all that they took the guinea pig to the vet and got the surgery and all but there were soooooo many other things done wrong. First off the guinea pig was alone.
Did you see the size of the cage?!? I wouldnt even put my hamster in that even as a travel cage. It was that bad. Just a water bottle it looked like. Nothing else.
And the even though he was joking, the vet telling him (Jim) to squeeze the guinea pig and hope the eraser comes out. I can only imagine someone stupid will try this.
And the guinea pig sitting on the railing of the stairs! He could have fallen!!
And Jim taking him for a walk on one of those horrible leash things and someone passing him with a wagon full of baby guinea pigs with a sign "Free guinea pigs take as many as you want"!
And what really did it was when the guinea pig jumped from the second story window! Now how did they film that? I hope to God it was computer and not really the guinea pig jumping.
Thats all I can think off but im sure there was alot of other things.

I didn't see it, but my mother was trying to tell me about it. And to have her tell me something is like running around a bush a couple of times. LOL

I don't think the guinea pig really jumped, at least I hope not.

I saw it too and was mortified. I was especially concerned when they left Fluffy on the railing & the desk unattended. My girls are so fast that they would've fell right off of either one. It just really upset me. And then at the end when they thought the hawk got a hold of it. I really like that show and I don't know if I can watch it or not. Poor baby!!

I don't get that show where I live so, yeah, but it sounds bad. But are the harness/leash things really all that bad if your guinea pig enjoys it, and is used for extra protection for outside even if the area is fenced off? (I've seen them and was wondering)

The problem with them is that if they try to dash away suddenly (as they are prone to do) they could injure themselves when they run out of leash and are yanked back.

I think someone said this could even break their spine, although I don't remember 100%, so I may be wrong about that detail.

Well, that makes sense if they were to fall over backward.

Make sure you don't just talk about this here. Write to ABC about how you feel as well.

This is for the leash/harnesses as well as balls and wheels. A guinea pig's spine doesn't bend in the same way that a mouse, hamster, gerbil, or chinchilla's does. Moving the way using a ball or wheel requires can be extremely dangerous for them to the point that it could break their back. A harness and leash is only safe if the pig is sitting still. If they jump, turn too fast, or something startles them, being restrained in this manner can cause them to wrench or break their backs as well. I wouldn't take the chance. If the pig is in an enclosed pen when outdoors, there is really no reason at all to put a leash of any kind on him.
