Would you stop loving your husband, wife, mother, father, brother, sister because of dumb little things like this?? If so, that's pretty sad and pathetic.
Actually, if my husband stood by for 10 minutes while two animals of any species ripped each other to shreds, I'd have a HUGE problem with that. Perhaps I'd still 'love' my husband, but I sure as hell wouldn't respect him much anymore. And I don't know if I could continue to live and be partners with someone with such little regard for other living beings.

I don't consider that pathetic at all; rather, I find apathy such as yours and your husband's to be pathetic.
Quote:

Well I am not a animal advocate
I think this statement pretty much sums up you and your husband. You all aren't animal advocates. You have pets only because they give you pleasure, not for the benefit of the pet itself. And I'm sure as soon as the pet inconveniences you, then the pet will be disposed of, in some form or fashion.

To true animal advocates, though, attitudes such as yours are sickening, and the mind set you all possess is the mind set the true animal advocates are trying to change.

Obviously nothing you've read or seen on this forum has penetrated through your totally pervasive attitude about animals. That's a shame, particularly for any animal entrusted to your care. I can only hope that maybe some day you'll see the light and realize what everyone on this forum has been so up in arms about.

Yeah his post sure make it sound like it,

Well I am not a animal advocate and sometimes I enjoy a good fight among animals.

And please stop comparing things that have nothing to do with the hamster to the hamster. If two U.F.C. guys/Boxers want to get in the ring and fight fine, but they have a choice and they get paid good money to do it. Bears in the wild are in the wild.
Here's a scenario for you, You walk in a store and see a hamster being killed by the other hamsters.
Do you A) Demand the hamster be removed, or B) Take out your phone and record the hamster being killed.
I would choose A if I was even in the store supporting them.

I'd never marry a guy like that in the first place. Honestly. I once kicked a guy in his man parts for picking up a cat and throwing him at the floor - because he was allergic to them. Like it was the cat's fault. After I was done with him he was bawling on the floor from the pain. And I make it my point to ask every single potential guy I'm going to date if they like and respect animals. I can NOT be with someone who doesn't. I even have family issues because some of my dad's family hate animals.

All of the hampsters were fighting at first. It was their free will.. if they didn't want to fight eachother they wouldn't of been.
As Daft said, it's not their CHOICE! It's INSTINCT! I mean, the hamster that was being ganged up upon didn't want to be attacked, and he was fighting to defend himself.

Quote:
I'm sure when those guys are all bloody in ultimate fighting they want it to stop too when its happening, but it can't
It's their choice to be part of that in the first place. They choose that career because it makes them TONS of thousands of dollars. They think it's worth it to get beaten up so they can have a lavish lifestyle and fame and hot chicks. That's up to them.

Re: Killer hamsters at Petsmart

The attitudes you both show are truly disgusting.

If you were a hamster, in a tank not much larger than you, and several other hamsters started tearing you apart, would you appreciate some giant human being watching and taping the fight in morbid fascination? I think not. Bear in mind that this human has the power to stop the fight.

If it were me, reguardless of the trouble I'd have been in, I would have personally broken into the tank and stopped it with my bare hands. Do a few scratches you might get really compare to a living creature losing its life?

You call us thick and close minded, yet you go on about watching animals fight and ENJOYING it?

I cirtainly wouldn't marry a woman with no respect for living creatures.

You're both sick.

Would I stop loving them? No, of course not. Would I jump to their defense and defend something I find reprehensible, just to make them feel better? No.

If my husband watched two animals fighting to the point of one being killed, I definately wouldn't back him up on that. That doesn't mean I will stop loving him, but he would know I was pissed off. I also don't consider it a "dumb little thing".

Actually there is a box to check if you want the system to remember you. If it is that much of a problem to log out when you are done then don't check the box. It's your own fault you are being annoyed.

Re: Killer hamsters at Petsmart

Wow, I came into this one very late. This is one of those unbelievable situations in my opinion. I don't know who I am madder at the pet store for overcrowding (I am sure just in case there is a Christmas rush on hammies) or the person who stood by and watched them kill another. If it were me, I would have a hard time sleeping after casually taping them painfully killing another. The eating part happens and should have been reported but doesn't upset me, it is the fact that at any time instead of filming, the fight could have been reported and the animal removed. This is one of those situations that actually gives "rescuers" a bad name to many. To stand by and tape it makes him actually worse than the pet store, he knew about it, they may or may not have. The rabid defense of a stupid situation further confirms to me that there was no excuse or defense of the husbands actions (how many times did the time frame and story change?) and it fact, it takes a pretty perverse person to stand by and watch something like that knowing that something could have been done at any time to prevent it.

I agree; labeling the videos "killer hamsters" and "fighting hamsters" rings bells of alarm. Only an idiot couldn't notice that those hamsters were doing more than just fighting. The blood was clearly shown and you could so the hamster holding it back as the other one attacked. He had 1:13 of hamsters killing each other on his youtube.

Its not like i went to a mill and taped them abusing animals and didnt say anything.
You enjoy watching animals fight each other? That's sickening. No wonder all you're youtube videos are of hamsters - hamsters! - fighting each other.

Re: Killer hamsters at Petsmart

I know that it is very hard to tell a persons demeaner in posts on a forum, but I just got bad vibes from the posts made my him and his wife both from the first time I read them. They both seem to come off almost hostile and as though they did not want to hear what anyone had to say.

Hamsters eating their dead colony members is perfectly natural. As someone else said, keeping hamsters in those conditions is absolutely not.

I don't often comment in the kitchen, but the very idea of someone videoing that rather taking action sickens me to the very core.

Re: Killer hamsters at Petsmart

As someone who works in the Specialies department of a local PetSmart, I do know if I or anyone else at my store was told of a fight like that in progress, we'd have stopped it right away. With the one hamster fight I've seen happen in our store though, waiting 10 minutes it was probaly too late for anyone to have done anything.

Re: Killer hamsters at Petsmart

These 2 people sicken me. The husband posts this terrible video and labels it "Killer Hamsters". It seems to me that he did that just to add hype to his YouTube. They both have no regard for animals. I would have reported that fight asap. I can't believe he would just videotape it. Ugh.

And then they try to make themselves look "better" by adding in posts about boxing and bears. There is no logic to any of those posts. They are ignorant and don't care about animals. I think they simply posted this to get a rise out of everyone. I don't know...it's just ridiculous and it saddens me that there are people out there like this. They have such little regard for animals.

And then to say that he enjoys watching animals fight sometimes...

I hope they either realize how ignorant they are and change their ways or leave this forum and stop antagonizing people who do love animals.

Lynn

Re: Killer hamsters at Petsmart

Well, to be fair, you shouldn't judge these two people and call them sickening or something like that just because of the way they post. I don't really agree with what they said but you still shouldn't namecall them because of their personality. Oh and I don't know how to explain this but sometimes when you see something as horrifying as animals killing one another you know what you should do to stop it but you seem to not do it. It's like in the moment... okay I really don't know what I'm saying. But it's like you guys are putting them on the spot, but they should've known this was coming when they put up something that sickening.

[Do you spell hampsters like hampsters or like hamsters? Sorry, random question. ]

They aren't being judged because of the way they post. They are being judged by their own actions and admissions. I agree, it is sickening that the original poster watched hamsters fight to the death without doing anything to stop it for a full 10 minutes. Obviously the original poster knew *something* out of the ordinary was happening, otherwise they would not have video taped the event.

Do you not agree that those actions are sickening? If you do not, then perhaps this is not the forum for you. Animal welfare comes first here on this forum.

(And hamster does not have a "p" in it - it is spelled "hamster.")

I do agree the actions were sickening, I just said I didn't think you should call them sickening. Their actions were, not them. I think it's sad the manager didn't even care that the hamsters were dying.

[thanks, I just got confused because I saw a lot of people spelling it with a "p". ]
