"It wasnt dead when i got there. In the last video i posted it was still alive"

So you video taped it being killed?

Great...

Re: Killer hamsters at Petsmart

Jthocker, there's a PetNo link in the simple question thread. Please report this store for abuse. Here's a link: Cruelty/Abuse

Next time, please don't wait so long to find someone. I saw a hammie being terrorized by a much larger rodent a few years ago, and I went and found someone and forced him to open the cage. In my very cheeky manner, I grabbed the hammie, a dwarf, right away (he practically jumped into my arms) and very nearly took him home with me. The worker had no clue, no clue at all.

This is why I can't go to these places.

Re: Killer hamsters at Petsmart

I didnt wait that long I was looking for someone that wasnt the imcompitant lady that sold me my "female" pig. I wanst about to go to her and ask her so i went to the front desk where the only other person was and asked them to have a manger go to the small animal area. That same lady showed up and wasnt even concerned about the animals at all. All she kept saying was that she had just put them out and how she was hoping to sell them all.

I did what i had to. i did what i could. The one they were attacking didnt look that healthy to begin with and i thought that they were establishing dominance.

Re: Killer hamsters at Petsmart

I got my hamster from the one here and he was alone with no food and he was almost out of water. I felt bad for him so I bought him and brought him home. poor thing was sick when I got him. The other animals seemed like they were in poor condition. That was about 2 years ago. I haven't shopped there since.

Re: Killer hamsters at Petsmart

The pictures didn't work.
That really is terrible. I seriously hate pet stores.
But guys, stop going off at other people for being insensitive. Do you seriously think he would have taped it if he realised the Hamster was being KILLED? Another thing is quoting half of what someone says, seemingly just to start an argument.
Settle down people. I'm as disturbed by thins video as anyone else, but fighting among ourselves isn't going to help.

You watched for 10 minutes, the manager went by 4 times. And yet you didn't think that a pack of animals attacking a single animal was trying to "kill" it? Did you really think that? If so, why tape it? Why tape it 4 times? To show the video to your friends of the hamsters in Petsmart frolicking around?

If he didn't think that something bad was happening, why would he start taping it? I don't actually go in Petsmart often, but when I do, I don't whip out my phone and tape the gerbils aimlessly wandering around eating food and digging unless there's something wrong.

People record videos of lots of different things. I go into places with animals and record videos of them just doing cute things. He was taking pictures of the bad inviroment the guinea pigs were in and the hampsters just happened to be right above the guinea pigs. You COULDN'T really tell how serious it was. As soon as he saw blood he realized and went to tell someone right away. Are you not getting that?? Sometimes animals just play fight because theyre bored.. it's possible he thought that that was what they were doing. Stop with the dumb arguments. It's dumb and pointless.

Amazing that most of us saw how serious it was right away.

What I'm getting is that he said the manager walked by 4 times and he did not demand the manager's attention. I also got that this attack went on for 10 minutes. A "scuffle" does not last 10 minutes. It lasts a few seconds. Anyone with common sense knows this.

What is dumb and pointless is posting something like this, trying to get us upset, but then when you, the one's with the power to do something about it, do nothing you get mad at us for our concern over your lack of action. Neither you, nor your husband, did anything to stop the attack while it happened and you seem uninclined to do anything to help the animals now. Do you think this is the only time this has happened in that store? Do you think it will never happen again?

Call the authorities, give them the video, get the media involved, do SOMETHING, but don't act like we are the bad guys for being outraged. We have every right to be outraged and I'm shocked that you aren't.

Re: Killer hamsters at Petsmart

Don't you for one minute tell me we havn't been doing anything. Do you know where my husband is right now?? On christmas eve?? At petsmart complaining to them, showing people the photos of the bad enviroment the guinea pig cages were in when he was there last and complaining about that lady he saw. I wasn't even there when this happend. My husband also posted the information of that store on here.. Did you use that information "voodoo joint"?? My husbands doing things about it, but as one person he can only do so much. And I'm not outraged?? When I saw them eating him I FREAKED out!!! Don't try to tell me how I'm reacting. Did I post my reaction to the tape?? Hmm... nope. I started to only post on this thread when you started bashing my husband. He doesn't deserve it. You make him seem like he's this terrible person that hates animals or something. Would someone that hates animals spend the last two whole days rebuilding their guinea pigs cage AGAIN so they can have even MORE room?? I don't think so. If he were someone that didn't care, they'd be in a petstore sized cage without getting any floor time and hardly any food, water and hay daily. You don't even know anything about us. But we really dont care what *you* think.. Only god can judge us.

Then why do you keep replying?

And regardless of what you might think and how wonderful your husband might be, after finally getting the video to work for me (I can't pull up YouTube at work.), I was appalled that he let it go on as long as he did. If put in the same situation, I would have grabbed the manager and dragged him or her over to the cage immediately when I saw the hamster being ganged up on, instead of standing there videotaping with my phone and watching the manager walk back and forth several times ignoring the situation. Based on most of the other responses, I feel comfortable saying that a lot of other people would agree with me.

Animals play fighting because they are bored does not entail a group of animals ganging up on one other, and usually only lasts for a few seconds.

From JTHocker:

"For the RECORD it took that stupid manager "B" 3 and a half minutes to get over to where i was. And as i have already stated she didnt show the least concern about the animals. Even some lady standing there was like "They like to do that". Like she knew everything about hamsters."

I have already drafted my letter to the corporate office with links included and still pictures taken from those videos.

I can't do much as far as getting the media involved or calling the authorities on this one as I do not own the video, have no proof where it was taken and my info is hearsay.

Yeah, and he also said
Quote:
The manager walked by about 4 times and never even looked at them or asked if they could help me.
So, did it take her that long to get over there and THEN walk by 4 times, or was this 3 1/2 minutes AFTER he decided to involve someone?

I think exsNohs was quoting something jthocker said to her VJ.

Re: Killer hamsters at Petsmart

I can tell you that I've demanded immediate action from pet stores based on a whole lot less. It's quite easy to get them to do something immediately. You loudly ask to talk to the manager. The less they move, the louder you talk, especially with customers around. You threaten to call AC on your cell phone. It works every time.
