Angry After this I understand a bit more

Grrrr I'm so mad I could spit. Stuff like this makes me understand why you guys hate breeders, although I know that not all breeders feel THIS way, but this quote from another list that I am on has me reeling and I don't want to start you-know-what over there so I am venting about it here.

This was a discussion on guinea pig food, and I was telling them about ethoxyquin and animal products, preservatives and stuff and a breeder pops up with this quote that just set my jaw to clenching so hard I bout broke my teeth

Quote:
As a breeder, if cavies are going to be so susceptible to stuff like alfalfa vs grass and preservatives and inhalants, then we are not doing anyone a favor by coddling and perpetuating these fragile animals anyway.
You've GOT to be kidding me. People like her are the ones that give breeders a bad name on sites like this. Then she goes on to say in the last part of her post

Quote:
Commentary: Oh. My. God. $50 for 50#? I'd eat it myself; must contain
prime rib or lobster, eh? If I was making 100K, ok, maybe that's more
normal. Everything is cheaper here in Backside-Of-Yesterday NY because
jobs are few and salaries are low. It's all relative.
$1 a pound? Since when can you get prime rib or lobster for a dollar a pound?!?!? Tell me so I can go eat there. She said at one time she had 30 pigs in the same post, OK I can understand how that would get expensive quick, but if you know you can't feed them properly it's the same thing as it would be for human children, DON'T HAVE THAT MANY!

*sigh* I can definitely understand how you guys feel about breeders if you have never met one that DOESN'T feel like this.

Re: After this I understand a bit more

It's not the "breeders" (people) I hate but the breeding they do and how many of them treat their animals. Many are in too small cages, get substandard care, many only get pellets and water and I bet half get a pellet mix instead of plain pellets. If there is an illness or a pregnancy complication, they aren't taken to the vet and the sows and/or pups are left to die.

Even the breeders that keep their cavies in c&c's, give proper veggies, hay, plain pellets and water aren't responsible breeders in my book because they are breeding for the totally wrong reasons.

I do have to ask you not to pull quotes from posts in other forums and post them here. You can take a post and paraphrase it into your own words though. We definately don't want to start a forum war.
