I checked xxxxxxxxx today because I was bored and there was a post titled something like "I am done breeding." I clicked on it and the member posted pictures of all the guinea pigs that died before/during birth lately and stated that he/she can't take the death of his/her animals anymore.

It's so sad how many animals it took for him/her to realize not to breed anymore. If he/she only took VJ's advice along with other Cavycages members this would have never happened.

They never do and they never will because they know best and are not interested in the concept of loving their animals to the point of finding breeding them repulsive.

In fact one person who responded saying basically "none of it is your fault" is responsible for way more animal deaths then the person who is stopping breeding. One of those deaths was a lethal this "responsible breeder" produced when they bred 2 roans together. This person was called out by me long ago as being irresponsible and cruel (as they actually said they wanted to kill another member's pet ferret and supported baby seal hunts) but, as usual, I was shouted down and this person now gets support in their reckless breeding of pet quality animals and sympathy when yet another animal dies due to their dangerous breeding practices.

I too have read this post and was very saddened at the amount of cavies this person had lost throughout the year.

But do keep in mind also, that yes, they although they do mention cavies they lost during breeding - they also said in general they lost alot of cavies (not pregnancy related) - including 5 boars due to kidney problems and other health issues.

But the thing that has me, is they have decided to give the majority of the cavies back to the original breeders - i'm wondering why they just dont keep them themselves as pets? I mean they must have enough cages to house them at the moment.

Oh well, i'm sure they have their reasons, and hope that the two remaining pregnant ones they have deliver their litters with no complications.

If they lost that many of their adult breeding animals to health problems, there could be a genetic disease in the breeding stock. An even better reason to stop breeding. But if they gave them back to the original breeder, well that means there's another jerk out there breeding sickly animals for no good reason.

Exactly, thank you, This person seems less interested in stopping their animals from more suffering and death and more interested in alleviating their own guilt and liability for the deaths.

If they really did love their "stock" and were finally so heartbroken over the deaths they would not be giving their animals back to breeders who may breed them and continue to risk their lives. They would protect and love those animals.

In the end they appear not to care for their animals, only their own feelings of guilt. Maybe one day soon they will understand what loving an animal is really all about. I hope so because it really is a marvelous thing.

I could never EVER breed from a pet of mine, they're family and I love them very much and always strive to protect them and nurture them. When I read of breeders who say they love their animals I think, really?!? why do you want to put them at risk then? They wouldn't risk the life of a family member (human) just to satisfy their own ego's.

Oh my gosh it just makes my blood boil to read posts about breeding and how everyone always says it isn't their fault that their animals died.

There was a post from a amature breeder from Spain who is breeding to produce different breeds of cavies. He said something like "I want to be a good little breeder."

That is very creepy.

I got my first bad reputation on that board for stating facts. Oh well.

Woo! Welcome to the club emox! Haha, I was banned for sticking up for VJ and Susan. Pretty soon they will be deleting your posts that state the facts. But at least they finally unblocked Cavy Cages and Guinea Lynx on their site.

I just read that thread and wow, (Not going to name names) that one person really over reacted. You got straight to the point, didn't stir up trouble, just stated your opinion. He got all riled up pulling random things out of his ..ahem.. to start an argument. Just want to thank you for getting the word out, no matter how some people may twist it around.

That person you mentioned is one of the worst irresponsible BYBs on the board. They breed pet quality animals for no reason at all, seem to lose half the animals they breed (death), have bred roanxroan and produced a lethal that died, etc... They are going to overreact and play the victim every time. They even have the audacity to tell others they are being irresponsible. This person is delusional.
