| My local petshop My wife and I went into the local petshop today. They have two monkeys as store pets and she likes to go see them. We also look in on the Guineas every time (this is where we got Herbie from last year before we knew about the humane soc.). They have had a hairless pig for several months, and today I noticed he had a lot of sores on his back. I went up front and asked if he'd had mites, and they said no. What they did tell me was that they'd put him in with the regular guineas and since he didn't get along with them, they put him in the pin with the bunnies, and that the bunnies had done that to him on Monday. So I looked at him and asked if he knew that they wern't supposed to put them in with rabbits as they could be seriously harmed like this, and his response was that they'd been doing it for years, and was getting really defensive. I then asked how many dead guineas they'd had as a result. He threw up his arms and walked away without answering. This was at Mr. Petman in South Daytona, FL The irony is that they share interior fire walls with the Thrift shop for the humane society which is on the other side of the building. One side is selling animals and the other is selling stuff to support the homeless ones. John M> Last edited by LobsterOverlord : 09-28-06 at 12:58 pm. Reason: to name the petshop. |

| Re: My local petshop There's a pet store about 2 blocks from here and they had 4 guinea pigs and 5 baby rabbits crammed into a very small mesh floored cage. The cage which I use for my rabbit is bigger than that one, and he's a very small baby rabbit and he has it all to himself! Also, at that same petshop they have like a very small 2x2 ft cages crammed with baby birds , including pigeons, chickens and ducks. Once I saw a baby duck being TORN apart by the other baby ducks. It was already missing a wing when I heard it "screaming" above all the other animal noises. I reported it but the only employee there was so disgusted that he wouldn't even take it away from there. I had to leave because I faint from seeing violence involving bloodshed. This was almost a year ago, and I did call the Humane Society and told them about the situation, but I've passed by the place a few times recently and it's still open and the animals are in the same housing conditions. |
