Breeding I understand that many of you are of the opionion of 'anti-breeding'. I understand as I am sure you have seen and heard of many horride occassion where an innocent sow has lost her life through giving birth. I to hate breeding...but of another kind 'unresponsible breeding'. There are a few breeders that ARE responsible and DO look after their cavies the best they can. Now please try and put aside any negitive thoughts while I explane something: no more breeders...no more cavies for the future! What would a world without cavies be like? I know I want my children to grow up and having cavies around. Now I would not cry a tear if all the unresponsaible breeders vanished tommorow, as I'm sure many guinea-pigs have cried under their care...but I would cry if the 'responsiable' breeders vanished. There are two kinds of breeding...don't support on of them!

Re: Breeding Anyone who would purposely put their animals through something that has a 1:5 chance of killing them will not get my support in any way, shape, or form. No matter how responsible and caring the breeder might be, the risk is still too great, and there are still thousands of guinea pigs that need adopting into good homes. I can assure you that in your lifetime, your childrens, and probably at LEAST several generations past that, there is absolutely no chance of running out of cavies. The BYBs will most likely never go away, and as long as they still force pregnancies upon their animals, and pet stores and pet mills still put "merchandise" out there for people with little or no knowledge about the animals to sell and buy, the shelters will have cavies that have been abandoned, and most will remain full to overflowing. When the pet stores stop selling animals, people realize that breeding their pets is not only ignorant but cruel, the shelters and rescues ALL empty out of animals that need adopting, and there is someway to regulate the breeding process where a sow has no more than maybe 2 litters in a lifetime, and all of the breeding animals are kept in perfect conditions, then MAYBE I'll decide to support breeding.

Re: Breeding Like it has been said, until the overpopulation problem disappears I will not support breeding. I don't care how wonderful a breeder is, how responsible they are, how well taken care of their pigs are, it doesn't change the simple fact that there are THOUSANDS of homeless pigs in the US alone. If I had my way, breeding would be made illegal until shelters were no longer needed. When this happened (which would most likely take several decades), then I would have breeding licenses required. A person must go through schooling to breed, and have regular inspections, AND can only breed a certain amount of animals per year. BUT until the overpopulation problem is gone I will in no way support ANY breeder. Don't breed or buy while thousands in shelters suffer and die.

Re: Breeding Not this same ol' argument again. Why don't people bother to read old threads before starting new ones like this.
