Puppy Mills

I know this is a Guinea pig site but I believe this should be passed on. It shows where the pets at pet shops come from. If this is not an example of why pet shops should be avoided I don't know what is. The governor should be praised and thanked.

Re: Puppy Mills

Indeed. No one should buy from pet stores. All of their puppies come from BYB's and puppymills. Almost all of the stores get their stock from puppy mills though. Only a small percent of them get their dogs from BYB's. Some people try to justify there buying by saying that they are saving the puppy from mistreatment. This is not the case by the time the dog gets to the pet store the damage is already done. Buying the dog will not erase the fact that it was pulled away from its mother to early, or that its parents were not tested for genetic defects that are now negatively effecting the offspring, of the living conditions at the puppy mill the puppy was in. By the time the dog is in the store all that has been done and buying the dog is not rescuing it from anything. You can't go back in time and fix those things by buying the puppy. Infact by buying the dog you are ensuring that more will be put in its place. It isn't a rescue, its a purchase and it ensures the cycle will continue.

I know this first hand because I use to work in a pet store that sold puppies exclusively. Before I worked there I didn't realize how bad it was. I knew it wasn't a good thing but I truely never realized the depth of the situation. I saw horrible things. You have off buying a shelter dog than a pet store puppy.

Re: Puppy Mills

I sure wish the country would get on the same ban wagon. I have signed so many petitions online and on paper for animal rights. It is such a slow process. I wish I could wave a magic wand and spread it about.
I had both my boys watch that video too so they can have an idea why I am agains pet stores selling pets and hate puppy mills. I let them know the same issues are prevelant with small animals like piggies and rats etc too. Man that is sad.
