Irresponsible GP Video!!!

I was surfing You Tube looking at tons of guinea pig videos made by proud pet owners.

Then I saw this one. This person is a real idiot and should not have guinea pigs. What a dangerous situation she is putting the piggie in! All for a laugh!

Re: Irresponsible GP Video!!!

It's not a great situation but the guinea pig clearly doesn't feel threatened in anyway. I have a cat and pig and I sometimes let them interact. The cat isn't hurting the pig in anyway, when they swat like that they don't use their claws. I think the cat is more confused and frightened than the guinea pig, it probably doesn't understand why this creature isn't running away from her!

Re: Irresponsible GP Video!!!

It would literally only take ONE second for that cat to do some real damage to the guinea pig. One bite could really damage a piggie. Cat bites are very dangerous even to humans and often cause severe infection, etc.

Re: Irresponsible GP Video!!!

This thread is exactly the same as the one title (I think) "Cats in pictures make me mad." People know their cats better than anyone. I know my cat wouldn't suddenly turn around and kill my pig.

Re: Irresponsible GP Video!!!

As far as biting, it can go both ways. The pig could bite the cat if the cat were to irritate it enough.

I never leave my cat ALONE with my pigs, that would be silly. My cat has been bitten by my pig and attacked by my rabbit, he just leaves them well alone!

I totally agree ButchCJG!!!! That is so mean and it isn't the guinea pig's fault! It was even nibbling on the couch and they didn't do ANYTHING.

Yea, I know my two dogs are MUCH more afraid of my guinea pigs than Oreo is afraid of the dog.

Re: Irresponsible GP Video!!!

When my bro and SIL came to visit and brought their cat, we made sure my guinea pig's cage was completely covered, but the cat was still able to stick her paws and nose in between the holes. Pepper took a bite out of the cat's nose. No more kitty bothering piggy.

I dunno, as someone said before, most people know their cats well enough. Personally I was laughing at the video, but I definitely wouldn't condone doing this.

Well, my dog kept jumping into the cage when the door was open, too.

Re: Irresponsible GP Video!!!

I got bored and didn't watch the entire video but they look like they have grown up together. I had cats and a guinea pig and dogs, and they all thought they were sisters, just some were prettier than others. They played and picked up each others habits. They played together. I don't think I ever left them alone together, but they probably would have formed some kind of group like in the new movies and went on an adventure together.

Re: Irresponsible GP Video!!!

I really think people overreact to stuff like this. My cat and dog hang out with my guinea pigs, under my supervision, every week during cage cleaning time. My dominate male pig, Junior, usually chases my cat around for awhile, until he gets bored, and my 2nd in command pig, Son-of-Pig, generally herds my dog around by nipping at her heels.

If you don't like the idea of a cat and guinea pig together (or dog and guinea pig, whatever) then I'd suggest that you don't put your pig out with your cat or dog.

I think the majority of cat and dog owners know their pets and their temperments; I also think that a majority of people with both cats/dogs and rodents are aware of the potential dangers and are careful to keep a close eye on the situation.

Re: Irresponsible GP Video!!!

I'm torn both ways, yes people know their animals very well. At the same time though we don't know how they might react in certain situations. Towards the end it looked the cat was about to bite the guinea pig but the guinea pig looked up at him and the cat backed off. Obviously the guinea pig didn't like it very much because he/she kept turning around ready to bite. It also looked like the guinea pig made a high squeak because I saw it's ears flap back. Once I saw the first swat I didn't like it. Cats can pack a ton of power into their paws if they want to kill or servely injure a guinea pig.

Re: Irresponsible GP Video!!!

Spinel wheeks so loud that his ears flap all the time for no reason. Some pigs are just like that. He'll wheek at his pigloo for hours if he feels like it. Somedays I think he just likes the sound of his own voice.

If the pig didn't like it, the pig would walk away, not try to get closer to the cat by trying to climb up the couch.

Pigs aren't dumb. If they don't like something they will leave. How many pigs run from the hand of doom? They don't wheek at it, sit there and then decide to check it out. They run and hide.

I would call that more of a poke then a swat. If you think that's mean and harmful then you have never seen an angry cat. I have had to seperate angry cats with a broom before and that is not an angry cat.

The only dumb thing I see in that video is that the person who encoded it didn't rotate it.

My pigs love Ukyou. They enjoy contemplating the mystery that is a tail. Cat tails are the best guinea pig toy ever. With the exception of Spinel (who is blind and can't see it anymore) they all love watching, chasing and nibbling on Ukyou's tail.

When all is said and done I have treated my guinea pigs for plenty of wounds inflicted by other guinea pigs. But in all the time I've had my cats and pigs I have never ever had to treat a cat bite on anybody. Cat or pig. I've also been bitten by my guinea pigs many many more times then I have ever been biten by all the cats I have ever owned or have even been in contact with in my life.

Re: Irresponsible GP Video!!!

I don't know alot about cats because I have never had one, but I do agree that people know what their animals will do or not do. Here is my example, this is my dog Snooky and my guinea pig Rodney. I know that Snooky will never hurt any of the pigs, he really loves each and every one. He even sleeps in their room with them. All that I am saying is it is not always a negative experience.

Here it is, it does have sound.
