Re: I Am Getting A Cavy!!!

Eh, this is the kitchen, after all. I hope I can tell you to go eat your dogs and cavies, and your mom and aunt while you're at it :P Also, if you can't get someone's name right, you can always copy and paste.

There's a big difference between foster/adoption and "raising"/sales.

I was thinking this over, and there are three kinds of people in the world: Those who think and act rationally and compassionately, those who honestly don't give a crap and do whatever they want, and those who are willing to harm others for their own selfish desires but rationalize everything they do because they want to see themselves as good people. What are you being?

Re: I Am Getting A Cavy!!!

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...I am so sorry for putting a space in your name.....

I make my living in 4-H and FFA selling pigs and steers for meat. I give them the best love and care and food while they are at my house then I show them and auction them off to people I know who will correctly slaughter them and put there meat to good use.

I don't have to answer your stupid 3 kinds of people in this world question....

Whats a matter you don't like eating meat??? Are you jelous??? Why don't you go and eat your friend and her grandmother and your mother and your cavies.......Weather Light.....

Re: I Am Getting A Cavy!!!

There are quite a few things you seem to have missed about this forum.

A)Cavy Cages is ANTI-PETSTORE and PRO-ADOPTION. This means that saying that you have to go to a feedstore or petstore to buy a pig is going to raise emotions. When people have waited months to find pigs, driven 2-10 hours or more to adopt, and set up transport trains to get guinea pigs cross country for each other, your excuse that there are none nearby is weak at best.

B)We are PRO-VEGETARIANISM. This does not mean that you're not allowed here if you eat meat. I'm an omnivore, and I'm a moderator. What it does mean is that the fact that you "raise my 4-H and FFA projects for meat" impresses no one and probably disgusts several if not most. If you want to eat meat, fine. Do it. But don't expect to get applause and a pat on the back for that fact or that you provide dead animal flesh to others.

C)Cavy Cages is ANTI-BREEDING. Therefore, your "I have been in 4-H for 9 years now, I have been in FFA for 4 years now." means absolutely nothing. You freely admit that you consider animals PROJECTS, and personally I find that revolting.

I could say because I find it unappetizing, that I have better things to eat, that it's unhealthy, etc but in reality it's because I'm not comfortable with unnecessary murder. I respect other sentient beings, sometimes I befriend some, but I never intentionally inflict suffering on them just because I feel like it, and when I do (unintentionally) cause suffering, I don't brag about what a nice person I am for doing so. I don't eat humans, cavies, dogs, cattle, pigs, birds, fishes, horses...unlike some people ^^

Re: I Am Getting A Cavy!!!

Well that sucks for you that you find animal meat revolting. Personaly I don't, I love it. I never asked for a pat on the back or a applause. I simply asked for an opionion about a wrap around for a cavy cage. It is really no ones bussiness where I get my Cavy from. They simply asked and I simply told.

Project could also mean that I am gettig a green broke horse and training it for a summer project. Do you consider that revolting??

When I raise my steers and pigs, I do consider them a project. You simply don't understand the meaning of project.

I love dead animal flesh!!! Especially steers and pigs!!

Re: I Am Getting A Cavy!!!

You told me to go and eat my animals and my aunt....what are you getting mad because of the fact that I slaughter my pigs and steers?

And what do you mean unneccassary murder....If we didn't slaughter these animals we would be over populated and over run by them and then they would be uthanized because there would be no one to adopt them. That is just wasting the meat.........Weather Light

~AND I DON'T EAT MY DOGS OR HORSES thank you very much~

Why not? You flaunt your murder of other animals who are just as deserving of life.

We need to continuously buy and dump Nike shoes. After all, if we didn't throw them away, they'd be overpopulated. There would be so many of them that they'd take over the world.

If she is not mature enough to research the possibilities of rescue and her mother is not willing to support her, then she is probably not ready to own one.

What do we want the girl to do? Wait until she is responsible enough to provide the care, companionship and attention a guinea pig deserves. Not go to a pet shop out of sheer selfishness.

You can't honestly have expected to make the statements you did and not receive any feedback from them. Of course people are going to "gang up" on you when you took our forum ideals and essentially dismissed them, by telling someone it's okay to purchase from a pet store because this girl wants a pig so badly.

No one needs a guinea pig that badly.

And as for what she should do? She should wait. It's very simple. Wait. Check her newspapers, check with her local vets, keep calling her local shelters, check craigslist, check petfinder, check the adoptables here, and WAIT. There are a great many people on this website who need to rehome their pigs, including me, and most people would be willing to drive some where to ensure that the pigs go to a good home. The "My mom won't drive 2 hours" excuse is utter crap. With pig trains and the willingness of others to drive, that point becomes moot.

It is not okay on this forum to tell other members they should go "pet store shopping" to purchase their guinea pig. I don't EVER want to hear another remark like that.

It's better for her not to get a guinea pig, yes. Then all she's doing is not giving a homeless pig a home. Advocating getting one from a pet store means that not only would she not be giving a homeless pig a home, she'd be supporting the breeding of more pigs and depriving other homeless pigs of a home. There's no need to create more demand for breeder pigs.

Re: I Am Getting A Cavy!!!

Charlie's_momma, I think you've been around long enough to have seen what this forum stands for, if not then you need to do some more research. It's very discouraging to see someone recommend buying from a petstore when there are so many homeless animals. And I agree with Susan and salana, if ILH2005, doesn't have her mom's support and doesn't seem to do her research on adopting a piggie, then she's not ready for one. It's not unheard of for someone to go two hours one way to adopt an animal.

Petstores/breeders/etc...are bad, plain and simple. It's been said before over and over again that this forum is very anti-breeders/petstores. If you don't like it, well....but I hope you see why it's like this. Don't condemn another animal to another pregnancy that may kill her, her offspring or both during the process just to be able to provide you with a pet when there IS or will be nearby. Patience is a virtue and you may have to wait more than a few weeks for one.

Re: I Am Getting A Cavy!!!

Not to mention, why would you encourage someone to own a cavy who treats animals as projects, has a tiny cage that's 'fine', beds on sawdust, and breeds animals?
Thank you Jennicat for this useful post, says:

I wonder if the cage is wire bottomed. She said it was a wire cage so who knows. People who are so ignorant like that just make you sick.

I have been looking for a adoptable cavy near by. I do have a vet that can look over my cavy. My aunt is a vet and she used to sell and raise guinea pigs as her hobby.

As for my cage, I think my guinea pig will do just fine in it. it's not like I am putting it in a box or something without any love.......

I am not even going to argue about the petstore deal...

As for adopting a cavy.....I have tried for months now! No luck what so ever, all because you guys have found a adoptable cavy doesn't mean the resources are available here where I am.

AND SuSAN 9608 if you would of read my last couple posts I clearly said where I am located but just in case you didn't read it I am in Hernando County FL. AND I have been patient, and I still am now about looking for a cavy. AND I am mature enough to own and car for animals. I raise horses, pigs, chickens, dogs, steers, rabbits, ferrets,b irds,fish,turkeys........I am in 4-H and FFA. I have been in 4-H for 9 years now, I have been in FFA for 4 years now.

YOU dont KNOW me so don't judge me.

Thank you for your help!
You're right we dont know you. We only know the facts you provide us with.
You think that cage is big enough, fine, you live in your closet for a week, sleep there, eat there, entertain yourself there, come out for maybe an hour or two a day. Then let us know if you think its big enough.
Also, have no contact with any of your own species, just the guinea pig, for a week, and tell me you don't miss human company.

If you can't do it right, you shouldn't be doing it at all.
