"Swap 3 baby guinea pigs for a baby budgie"

I was reading over some of the things on an Australian animal website - and there is a classifieds there.

This particular ad caught my eye and was rather shocked to see exactly what was on offer.

Hey Guys,

I am after a baby budgie just out of the nest which I can tame down for a pet.

I am willing to swap my 3 baby guinea pigs

1 x male - 10 weeks old
1 x male - 5 weeks old (brother of female below)
1 x female - 5 weeks old

They are all smooth coats with a crest. All in tan or brown and black colours

email for any more info

One of the things that bothers me most, is the fact that this person is hoping to rehome 2 baby males and 1 baby female - all together (makes me wonder if the poor sow is already with the boars!).

Matt

Re: "Swap 3 baby guinea pigs for a baby budgie"

Oh I've read this ad aswell dosn't it make you angry! grrr...

I thought the same thing not only are they showing that they obviously don't value the poor piggies but they are suggesting rehoming males and females together and don't give two hoots whether they're going to breed or not.

I considered writing to the person who wrote the ad what do you guys reckon??? Has anyone else???

Sounds a bit like it may be a teenager or someone young that has written the ad.

That's shocking! I'm especially disgusted that she wants to "swap" them for a budgie, she is treating them as "disposable"! I hope she has now seperated the boar and sow to prevent more piggies being born.

I hate it when people want to "trade" animals. If you want to trade something with other people, there's Pokemon cards and that sort of thing.

Could you email the author of the ad and ask them about the living situation? At the very least, if they're housing the girl with the boys, they should make it clear that there's more than 3 pigs in this trade.

Since when is it ok to use animals as "currency"? How utterly sad.

And yet another fantastic "for sale" on that website.

Giveaway to good homes 2 guinea pigs - 1 male (6 weeks) 1 female (approx 3 months). Great easter present!

Why isn't it the gift that keeps on giving?

I've been looking at our local classified section and have seen a lot of these kinds of ads, especially for bunnies. Whatever happened to chocolate bunnies and painted eggs?

It was okay a few hundred years ago, but now? I'm guessing a teen/kid that doesn't have the money for a bird.

If only, if only...I usually give gifts away on Easter, but I would definently go for the chocolate...Mmmm...
Also: Puppies/kittens on christmas, Chicks (What happened to, not what I would want, Peeps?) on Easter as well. Occassionlly the Turkey on Thnksgiving, but it's usally eaten...

I have a feeling the Chick was too, unless it turned into an egg layer, then it would be put out in the chicken coup with the others until such time as it was eaten.

Ugh, I bet they'd take great care of the budgie too

(Missesd, I think they're called parakeets in America.)

Re: "Swap 3 baby guinea pigs for a baby budgie"

Parakeets describe all sorts of little birds that are not actually parrots.

http://www.budgies.org/

The above link has a picture of a blue budgie on it. They come in all different colours, although I believe yellow and green is the standard that all wild budgies are, the variety of colours in the pet class are mutated genes, similar to our cavies.

I have no idea about the content of the above site, I just grabbed it off google.

Re: "Swap 3 baby guinea pigs for a baby budgie"

Ah, okay. Shows what I know

My friend has budgies, they're cute and sweet but a lot of work, kind of like guinea pigs really. I really don't think anyone who'd give away guineas just like that would make very good budgie owners either.

Here's a Chicago craigslist listing with offering two guinea pigs for $50, or make an offer to trade with the owner, a '2 1/2 yr old' child. Seriously, I just don't get some people. I have to assume this 'pair' doesn't include a neutered or spayed piggie either.

That is sad. They are very stricking piggies.
