This is a bad influence...

http://www.smallcritters.com

I haven't made an account yet, so I don't know how in depth it actaully is. But, we have enough children and adults that mess around with real life breeding and showing, I don't think people really need to do it online. I was looking for one of those little pets that you can click on and they move, for a myspace or a website, and that's how I found this. I know it's not a huge deal because it's not doing real harm, but I was a little shocked by it. I think it would make kids want to go out and breed animals. I doubt it's realistic, so if something happens during this online pregnancy, it's not there a still borns or lethals or deaths to the parents. And it's not as though you actually have to pay for all these babies you create. I know they have sites like Neopets, and things like Pokemon and Monster Rancher and Digimon. But those are all made up creatures, you can't reainact those things in real life. I dunno, it just seemed like something that would concern some of you, so I just wanted some opinions. In the meantime, I'm going to make and account and see what all you can do.

Re: This is a bad influence...

I am not really too sure what to think. I would definitly say that playing this game would be much better than playing it in real life. At the same time it seems like it is just making breeding seem like a game and it might make people want to do it in real life. I guess there could be arguments for both sides.

Okay I checked out a little bit of it and I guess I can give them credit on the pet store page where it says to check the rescues first.
And the rescue shelter is realistically overfilled.

I noticed that too, there was like 300 guineas and 50 of everything else. It made me sad. They even have all the different breeds of piggies too. I guess it is a well put together site, I just thought the breeding thing was a bad idea.

Re: This is a bad influence...

Actually 'The Sims' has a guinea pig too.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/746700.stm
"...cause the Sims to react in new ways. But one of the latest extras, a guinea pig, is proving a little too lifelike for some people. Sloppy Sims who do not clean the cage of the guinea pig and get bitten by the filthy beast are falling ill and, in some cases, dying."
B'cos of the outcry this caused among hardcore players and fans, it was updated and made less lethal.

That's kind of sad, that they couldn't even manage a Sims guinea pig. They shouldn't of had to of seen it violent or seen it die.

Re: This is a bad influence...

The Sims guinea pig wasn't really much like a real guinea pig. It looked and acted more like a hamster in an aquarium, but pooped and sounded like a guinea pig.

I am a member of Furry Paws and Ludus Equinus. (www.ludusequinus.com)

I stopped playing almost two years ago. But I have to agree it is a lot better than doing the real thing.
