More bad breeders! WARNING: Graphic pictures in links

I have been fostering dogs for a rescue group for several months now. My last foster has me angry and I need to vent. He is a retired breeder, Italian Greyhound. His body is covered in sores, his testicles are blistered and scabbed, his ears are chewed up, his teeth are brown with tartar. Graphic images:

The one before him is a Dachshund puppy, she is deaf and blind. The breeder bred the equivalant of two roans to get "pretty colors". SHe had 8 pups, 2 died and 2 were blind and deaf. But who gives a about those dogs. She got a solid white dog.

The first foster I got was a breeder retired pomeranian. Her care was so bad that she has no teeth.

These poor animals dont deserve this! I have being the escape goat for breeders, but if we dont take them and help them who knows what they would do. The dogs have worked their whole lives in bad conditions and deserve a good "retirement" home.

Re: More bad breeders!

Vent all you want, you have a right too after seeing those images.

Those poor animals, have you contacted the RSPCA to maybe have charges filed against those who did this to those animals?

Re: More bad breeders!

I told the director of our rescue. She said that if we reported her, nothing would be done and the breeder would stop surrendering animals to us.

Oh Amanda! The pictures are absolutely horrendous! Those animals are so lucky to finally get to someone as loving as you who is willing to help them.

Thank you! I ended up adopting the pomeranian and the dachshund. I have had many many more coming in and out of here. But those just touched my heart.

Hopefully within the next year (or 2), I hope to be buying a house and want to adopt a retired Greyhound. It's so sad what those poor animals are put through.

Re: More bad breeders! WARNING: Graphic pictures in links

Here in Tucson, there is a grayhound race track and a very big grayhound rescue. The animal people here are on top of inhumane treatment of the dogs when it is found. There is a hug amount of back yard breeding of pitbulls here also. There is also a huge pitbull rescue that has right now over 200 dogs. I myself have 2 rescued pitbulls. Also chiwauwahs (I know not spelled right). We have alot of poverty here so the people breed the dogs and sell them on street corners and at the stores. Animal control and animal rights and humane groups are big here to fight this, but it is still a huge problem. Also where I live, dogs are dumped all the time. I rescue what I can and try to find homes for what I can. That's why each one of us makes a difference, to fight for these animals. Again, Adopt, Adopt, Adopt! Thank you T, for having a anti-bredding site for those of us believe in it so strongly. Let those who continue to come and argue go find another forum.I know it's off the subject, but I noticed alot of pitbulls in the rescue of New Orleans dogs. I just breaks my heart.

I understand that greyhounds are horribly abused animals, but this is an Italian greyhound. Much much smaller versions that arent raced.

Sorry, I thought they were the same. I didn't look at the pictures. I have a hard time actually seeing the cruelty. I am very glad you are doing what you can for these animals. Kudos to you.

All I can say is thank goodness for people like *you*. That poor animal. What me must have been through is just unthinkable.
He loos so sweet and gental. I hope he has some trust in humans-the ones that *are* there to look after them.
I just can't believe my eyes when I saw the picture.
I hope he gets better soon and that he finds the loving caring home he deserves.
And hats off to you for what you do.

Re: More bad breeders! WARNING: Graphic pictures in links

Update on Valentino.
We took him to the vet for a checkup (obviously much needed). His teeth were in such bad condition, he had to have 12 pulled. When he was shaved for neutering surgery, his skin was so thin and in bad shape, it cut him and he needed stitches.
He is going to need a very long recovery period. But thank goodness he has been adopted by someone that feels very strongly that he needs (and deserves) a nice laid back life with people who care about him.

Actaully, the italian greyhound and regular greyhound are 2 seperate breeds. The italian greyhound has the word grehound in it to show that orginially they were scaled down from a regular greyhound. Why they are 2 seperate breeds today is because to scale down the greyhound they had to mix them with smaller dogs of a different breed. Bothing so broudened the genetic pool in the resulting litter and created charachertics that were different from the original greyhound, not just in size anymore. There for, a new breed was created.

But scaling down a breed doesn't always produce a new breed of dog. It depends on many factors. Ex.
What the intentions for scaling down the breed are for, what breeds they are mixing them with, how they selective bred them, and the dominance of the new genes, provided by mixing them, over the orginal breed they are scaling down.
The same can be said when scaling up a breed, most often people scale down.

Poodles are a good example of a breed of dog that was scaled down and retained their characteristics. Poodles have three different varieties, standard, miniature, and toy. Basically, the only different between these guys are the sizes. That is why they are all one breed, many varieties however.
