America's Funniest Home Videos sinks low

For people not in the US America's Funniest Home Videos is a show where people sent in video clips that are supposed to be funny. I was watching it today (not paying to much attention, reading something on the computer) and I heard Ode to Guinea pig, so I look up and there is a very cute abby guinea pig sitting infront of a speaker with the song 'Ode to Joy' playing (I think it was from Beetoven's 5th Symphony). The part that made me mad (I'm still angry) is the music was way up on the sterio and you can see the guinea pigs ears moving because the sterio was blasting. Guinea pigs have very sensitive ears so that probably hurt that piggy very bad. The guinea pig wasn't moving too much but you couldn't see the whole guinea pig so maybe someone was holding him there. People actually laughed at this! Grrr. (the show was made 10 years ago, this wasn't recent, reruns)

We have Sky; and I dispise these type of programmes as they just upset me. What is so funny about them, I certainly don't find animal cruelty one least bit funny.

Re: America's Funniest Home Videos sinks low

There was similar thing on in the UK over Christmas, I turned it off. It was very sad and the animals were in my opinion being exploited.
I don't believe a lot of the things shown are spontaneous anyway, they are set ups...who walks around with a video camera on all day?

Cheap nasty programmes, in my opinion.

That reminds me, last night my little brother said "Hey mum, when's that show on? You know the one where people get hurt and it's funny because they're hurt?" I was laughing so much!

Re: America's Funniest Home Videos sinks low

There was a show on Animal Planet called Petstar, I dont know if it is still aired. Anyways, there were two sisters who each had GP's, and there was a little song and dance and the pigs "sang" as well. By singing, the girls were petting them against the grain of their fur; more than likely causing them to be in some pain, being that they were squeaking a lot. People can be VERY inconsiderate to their "loved pets".

I was one of many, many others that sent letters to Animal Planet regarding that episode. We all got back a standard form letter not saying much of anything.

I haven't watched their channel since then.

For those who haven't seen the Animal Planet clip or want more info I host the clip here in hopes of educating whomever I can. There is also links to the GL copy of the clip, the original thread and the GL Animal Planet Protest page.

I had seen that skit before I had gotten GP's again, and after watching it I am even more disgusted! Those poor pig :-( you can tell they are squealing in pain.

That is sooo disgusting! Someeone should put together a petition.

Animal Planet has lost its heart. They used to do only shows about animal stories, rescue, education, and vet clinics. Now they include garbage that promotes breeding too. I stopped watching them a long time ago.

Re: America's Funniest Home Videos sinks low

See, since I don't have cable I have no clue what is going on. The reason I host the clip is so that cableless people like me can know what is going on with animal related programming.

Another good reason to convince my husband we need cable! Hockey and more Law and Order just aren't cutting it.

Re: America's Funniest Home Videos sinks low

Once they had a video of a hawk swooping by and grabbing the pet rabbit who was playing in the yard. The Dad was videotaping and the kids were laughing. You know they never got the rabbit back and he died a horrible death, but I guess they are easy to replace.

Re: America's Funniest Home Videos sinks low

Ive seen most the crap on that channel, some of the stuff is ok but 85% of it is just pure garbage.

Thats horrible that they would do that to those piggers. Im a new GP owner and when I first got my oldest pig Chevy and pet her against the grain of her hair and she made a kinda similar noise, I knew she didnt like it and it caused pain... Dont take a freakin rocket scientist to understand what hurts something.

poor pigs shouldnt even be in the hands of those girls. Im sure there kept in a tiny pet store cage with nothing but pellets to eat as well. This makes me irrate.

Re: America's Funniest Home Videos sinks low

I don't have cable either, but I get a dose of it when I visit my parents or go on a business trip. But I had cable years ago when Animal Planet just started. It was a much better channel back then. It was more educational, and less exploitational. It's become more commercial since then, and I'm sure greedy stupid marketers (ones that don't give a rat's rear about animals and look to make a buck off of the lowest denomenator) are a big factor.

Re: America's Funniest Home Videos sinks low

I was just wondering...

What is the grain of their neck/fur? Is it behind their ears? I dont want to pat them any place that may cause pain.

Australia has a funny home videos show. I hate it when I see animals being exploted for a few laughs. Some people just have no idea how awful their videos are.

Fluffball, petting their hair against the grain means stroking the hair in the opposite direction that it grows.

Re: America's Funniest Home Videos sinks low

Oh my gosh! I just watched the clip of the "singing" guinea pigs. It made me cry. Those poor babies! And you know that since those girls didn't know how to handle their pigs, they probably didn't care for them properly either.

Re: America's Funniest Home Videos sinks low

One day I was watching "funniest home videos" and this small dog was stuck in a (tiny) hole of a wooden door with its legs hanging either side wich meant all this pressure on the helpless dog's ribs!!
(people laughed at it)

I hate how they purposly(sp?) put animals in stress
