Ebay considering live pet auctions

This is legitimate... I hope I can post this in this forum and if not, sorry. It seemed like the most logical one.

We had a computer crash so getting to sites has been tough. Lost loads of data.

But I can get on line now and had to get this out to as many places as possible.

Please help!

Can you forward this to as many people you know? This is legitimate and I
am trying to get this out and about to as many people as possible.

Thanks,

Ebay may get into the live pet business - this posting IS legit - it is right
off of the community boards. PLEASE cross post this widely and email the woman who heads the pet supplies section - her contact info is in the posting.
PLEASE CROSS POST THIS WIDELY - it is legitimate and causing furor in the Ebay
commuity.

"Dear Pets Community Members-

We are hoping to launch a Live Pets Classified Format early next year. The
listings would not be transactional and there would only be a listing fee. We
are also looking into allowing non-profit animal shelters to list animals for
adoption for free.

I would love to know what our active community members think about this new
category. We are also considering Pet Services in this format as well -
grooming, walking, etc..

Please feel free to reply to this thread or email me directly at pretz@ebay.com

Thanks!

Maybe it is just me but this seems to be alot like petfinder. It says the listing would not be transactional which makes it seem that it is not going to be a "highest bidder" type deal.

I am going to assume probably not. It does say they are looking for non-profit shelters to list their animals. I do not think a non-profit shelter is going to send an aminal via the mail. I guess a little more info would be needed to make a sound decision.

Re: Ebay considering live pet auctions

The issue is - there are many who pose as rescues but are actually brokers - we get this alot in dogs... There are Do Not Adopt lists among rescue groups and many listed have been determined by rescues to be brokers looking for animals to resell. I have suggested to Ebay that they support something like PetFinder instead. Even many rescue folk are against this when I scanned some of the posts - it is just a slope I do not think Ebay is ready to go down.

Also, sadly. many countries still allow animal fighting and Ebay is international.

I have done preadoptive interviews when I was more involved with dog rescue and it is very involved - cannot effectively do over the internet.

Just a very slippery slope I fear Ebay has not fully thought out.

Ebay scraps plans to offer live pets: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051220/...i_te/ebay_pets

Mostly due to negative feedback, so it does help. I only wish Craig's List would be more proactive like Ebay.

Good news that it's been scrapped. It would have been too difficult to police.

Good! All of the negative feedback probably got to them.

Too bad that doesn't work at pet stores or for puppy mills.
