Bad petstore + hot weather = dead piggy.

I don't know why I suddenly thought of this but I guess it's because I am in the mood to rant today.
So anyway - last summer I went into my local petstore and always had to look at the piggies. I had always though that the living conditions of the piggies were pretty good at this store, however when me and my mum looked at them we saw that one was lying flat on the floor and the others were walking over it, we could see it wasn't breathing so I went and told a member of staff - a young guy. I told him that we though one of the piggies was dead and he said " I think it's asleep" in a really uncaring way to which I replied - "no, I really don't think so......it's not breathing..." turns out the piggy had died, presuambly because it had got too hot and couldn't cool off.
Another thing about the same pet store is they CAN NOT sex their animals, Before the piggy incident I adopted two "male" rats, turns out one was a female and she had 12 babies! So this is a really bad store!

Did you report them to the RSPCA? I reported my local garden centre pet shop to the SSPCA. Considering paying them a visit to see if anything has improved since the last time. They had tropical fish tanks so green with algae you couldn't see the animals. Cavies in hamster cages. About 10 degus in one small cage. Absolutely disgraceful. I might go there tomorrow.

I know and it was a young one too, probably only 6 or 7 weeks - poor little guy. PLUS they have a sign up now that says quality breeders wanted!

Re: Bad petstore + hot weather = dead piggy.

At my petstore, they just put all the same animals together regardless of age or sex and that's why everyone ends up with babies. it's just irresponsible. like, I can see why they maybe can't tell you if it's male of female, they don't want to get in poop if they are wrong. But they can at least do it for the sake of the animals. And besides, I would be more peeved at the fact that my new pet was pregnant then if they sexed it wrong. I can't stand them at all! I'm happy I have a garden store that sells pet supplies too so I don't end up yelling at a poor, naive, PetValue employee.
