Re: yet another ebay cage

That is small. I see ones likt that but they are normally at least 3 foot by 2 foot. That is more a hamster size cage-well if you include levels ideal hamster cage.

Re: yet another ebay cage

That is too small, and also the accessories included one of those run about balls which we all know are not any good for guinea pigs!

Re: yet another ebay cage

Um if its advertising the ball I think that maybe they've had a hamster init not a guinea pig? I mean a guinea can't even fit into 1 of those balls! And the igloo looks hamster size.
Its all a little confusing here to me.

Re: yet another ebay cage

They do make those balls big enough for a guinea pig to fit in. I had one for Percy before I found out that they could break a toe in one of the air slots or even worse break their backs in one.

Re: yet another ebay cage

I think this has been brought up before on another thread but contacting the seller to tell him the cage is inappropriate and can be considered harassment.

The real problem isn't with this person who bought the cage but with the manufacturer. Most people who get pets (especially pocket pets) don't research beforehand. They see a cage labeled for guinea pigs and they buy it. If the cage didn't say it was for guinea pigs, they wouldn't have bought it. If the only guinea pig cages available at the pet store were 6 feet by 6 feet, that's what people would have.

Same thing with the balls. If the running balls weren't marketed as a guinea pig toy, no one would buy one for theor guinea pig.

Also, I doubt this person would give a hoot about anything we said. This line says it all: "My son used it for his guinea pig for about two years. Now he has fish." To them, it was just a disposable pet.

Re: yet another ebay cage

Well.. I have a feeling it was used for a hamster cage as well and th mother just doesn't know any better. Not that I'm saying people don't check in on how to care for there pets cause they don't!

I know when I brought Bandit home for the weekend I was on the internet searching for everthing I could on how to care for him.

Re: yet another ebay cage

I agree it's for a hamster as well. My hamster's cage is bigger than that, though!

Re: yet another ebay cage

Well hamster's use them, and for the size of exercise ball it is I would have to say its for a hamster. True the exercise balls are bad for are piggies but they make them in cavy size.. Which sadly doesn't say anything about not putting a cavy in one so people buy them.

Re: yet another ebay cage

I would, but I would have to use my fathers account, and he uses it for buisness. If anything became of it, I would get in soo much trouble. In Febuary when I get my own computer, and my own account I'll be able to start doing these things, like complaining that the cages are too small. Thats so sad if a cavy was actaully kept in that living condtion.

Re: yet another ebay cage

I used to have the mini hamsters and that was the size cage I used. Even if people don't know pigs need ample running space, you think they'd wonder 'Man, my guinea pig can't even move in this thing.' Maybe the seller came to his sences. But still, why would he sell it? So another pig gets squished? And even though they're harmful, the only animal of mine I've seen use ball was a hamster. My rats hated it. I'm not sure about Chins though.
