Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0
Hi, my name is Sarah and I live in Prescott Arizona. I currently don't have any guinea pigs but plan to in the short future. I joined this forum to hopefully learn more information that I should know before I adopt. I already have plans this weekend to start buying supplies to make my own cage. It may be a few months before I actually adopt a cavie, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to start preparing now. There is a great rescue called piggie-poo rescue in Anthem. It's about an hour drive, but it's the closest rescue I could find, and I refuse to buy from a pet store. Now I was planning on just adopting one, but then I got to thinking it may be best to adopt a pair. Any input on that would be great. |

Hi and welcome to GPC. Kudos on adopting! It would be better to adopt a pair as cavies are very social creatures. They need a friend of their own species to talk to, play with, hang out with, etc. An hour drive isn't all that far to adopt. I'd suggest reading over our Diet and Nutrition forum paying close attention to the sticky threads, reading our homepage to get help with caging and reading the Bedding forum to get ideas on what type of bedding you'd like to use. I'd also read over the sticky threads in the Accessories forum. |

I actually found this forum as I was looking at the piggy-poo rescue site, they have a link to come here for how to make/buy a C&C cage (which they highly recommend). I've been reading over some stuff already on the forums and now realize it's best to have at least two. Their diet should be fairly easy as my boyfriend and I eat a vegan diet so we normally always have fresh veggies in the house. I still need to do more research as to which veggies are best to give on a day to day basis and which should be fed at a minimum. I also have pet gerbils which I use aspen shavings for their bedding, I'm hoping I will be able to use that for guinea pigs as well. This forum seems to have a ton of info! I'm going to get back to reading |
