Me and My Pig(s): Hello from Nebraska

Greetings from cold & rainy Nebraska. Well, we have finally decided to join in all the fun on this web site. We have been using it for information for almost 2 months now. We were lucky enough to have found out about C&C cages before we got Nikita our newest family member. Our downfall was not understanding the importance of adoption so we did get our little girl from a small mom & pop petstore. We will not do that again. Thankfully she is very healthy and not pregnant.

Nikita lives in a 2 x 4 C&C with fleece, 1 x 2 kitchen loft with newspaper litter we change every 1 to 2 days, and a 1x2 loft area where she can play with dad in his chair. She has brought so much joy to our family and improved our eating habits with her need of fresh vegies.

As for the rest of our family there is Mom, Dad, Brother 11, Sister 9, Tigger the king of the house (cat), Holly queen of the backyard (husky/border collie mix), and Goldie & Tweety the princesses of the showroom. For those concerned about the kids, please don't worry Nikita is more for Dad than the kids.

The main reason for us finally signing up is we need help! For a month now I have been trying to find Nikita a friend or maybe two. I check daily at petfinder, newspaper ads, and craiglist. As for petfinder all the little girls I have seen have been at least a 4 hour drive one way, just to far. The ads on craiglist have not been much better. I also have notes put up at several of local vets.

I'm glad you're trying to find a new pig to adopt. Have you found any rescues within a few hours of you? Many of them will help with transportation or may have foster homes in your area. Are there any dog/cat shelters closer to you? Many of them don't list pigs on their website even if they have them. Even if they don't take pigs, you could ask them to contact you if they hear of one needing a home. Be patient with Craigslist--pigs there often come in waves. For a while there won't be any, and then a lot will come up. Good luck!

Thank you. Yes I have checked the rescues near us. One told me they have never had a piggie. The other told be to watch petfinder, they would post if they got one. It is so hard waiting, we really want Nikita to be happy.

I am so excited we may have found a little girl only 2 1/2 hours from us. Just email the person to see if they would hold till this weekend. Keep your fingers crossed for us. My only concern is she sound about the same age as our little girl. Do think that will be a problem.

Oh congrats. I understand the waiting game to find a piggie is dreadful. Post a picture when you get time. Nikita will be so pleased to have a friend.
