Re: Hello from Central IL!

Wait...maybe I missed something along the way. You posted pics of Bacon and Butterfinger on September 9 saying you were adopting them. You have now posted two more pics saying you've been approved to adopt Simon and Schuster. Do you have 4 pigs now??

Re: Hello from Central IL!

Congrats on the two new boys. I hope they will all get along for you. Are you going to be able to make the cage bigger?
You did a great job on your cage. I havent been on in a bit and just saw your pictures. Your new boys are absolutely adorable too.
We started out with 1 piggy and knew one wasn't enough, we gradually have grown to 11 now. We just rescued another boar from the pet store I get my oxbow from. He has been there since January and he was in a 20 gallon fish tank, covered in lice and who knows what else. They gave him to me along with a free vet checkup to any vet I wanted. He got a clean bill of health other than for the lice. He is the sweetest thing, especially for being stuck in an aquarium with no human interaction. I cant wait to get him all cleaned up and out of quarantine. I'm going to keep him in quarantine longer than usual just to be safe though.
Enjoy your piggies.

Yes, I will be up to 4 boys once Simon and Schuster get here. Room is not a problem at all. Once S&S get through quarantine, I will be adding another 2x4 C&C to the existing one. my boys now share a small room with my chinchillas, so we have plenty of room for an additional cage if the 4 boys don't get along. I already have the grids for the quarantine cage, and I will be setting it up this week, as we will be going next weekend to pick up the new boys. They are 2 1/2 hours away, so its not exactly a quick trip that I can take through the week.

I really have taken all aspects into consideration on this, which is what I believe your concern is (and it is greatly understood and appreciated ) food and vet care is never a problem, i work for a cavy savy vet, so that part is constantly covered as well. And as I stated before, space is not an issue either. time is not an issue either. I do all of my home work for school and work in the critter room with the boys running free in the critter room as well, so I spend a large part of my time in the critter room which has been piggy and chin proofed (and no, they are never out together). If you do have any other questions for me, or aspects that I may be missing, please don't hesitate to ask.

Re: Hello from Central IL!

Oh I know. It sounds like you have everything under control and the cage looks great! I just wasnt sure if you werent able to get Bacon & Butterfinger and now were getting two new ones or if you were indeed having all four.

They are all adorable! I have four males myself. It can be a handful but well worth it! Good luck!

Re: Hello from Central IL!

did you have to do intros with yours or did they all come together? I don't think I'll have much of an issue with intros as Simon and Schuster are older boys, and are already housed together, and Bacon and Butterfinger are still basically babies (well teenagers anyways). I'm probably going to try to intro Bacon with one of the older boys and then Butterfinger with the other, and then all 4 together and see what happens (after the quarantine anyways ) I don't anticipate anything as B&B are chickens, but its one of those hope for the best but prepare for the worst type of situations

Re: Hello from Central IL!

That is awesome that you work for a cavy savy vet, and you are so informed and all about your pets, and also that you have an entire room for them!!! Geez, how cool that must be!!! Your guinea pigs are lucky boys, I tell ya!! Good luck and can't wait to see your "revised" cage once you get all the boys in house!!

Re: Hello from Central IL!

well its a very small room, but a room none the less. It was either going to be a critter room, office or closet... But Bacon and Butterfinger absolutely love it now. I'm going to be building shelves above the cages to put thier hay and stuff on, since I'm having a hard time finding bins small enough to squeeze under the cage.
I'm debating about doing an L shaped cage or just putting them side by side, but it will essentially be 2 2x4 cages and if they get along, they will be able to go from one side to the other, but it will be seperated if they dont.
Decisions decisions, .
