Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 I just recently got my Guinea pigs (three sisters) and I have to say how grateful I am that I found this place otherwise I probably would have put them in a small cage and not known any better (although maybe not because I'm used to horses and think that owning any animal without a decent backyard is mean > I have a question about cat grass. My next door neighbour has some for her cat and I'm pretty sure it's normal grass and because it's Australia you're going to be hard pressed to find some decent grass for a while and she cut some grass for me and I fed it to them and they LOVED it. In fact it was the first time they came outside of their hiding places while I was there. ANYWAY the question was: does anybody know if it is bad for them. Wow. That got long. Sorry! |

Welcome to GPC! No store bought cage is big enough for three pigs, let alone one. Three piggies need at least a 2x5 grid cage. Check out the site's main page:www.guineapigcages.com. you can either buy one directly from the site or you can make your own. You can buy a box of 16 grids from Bed, Bath, and Beyond for about $15. to have a lid OR a base you will need 24 grids or 2 boxes. I suggest getting coroplast from a small, independently owned sign store. If you can't find coroplast, you can get linoleum from a Lowes or Home Depot to line the bottom of your cage with instead. Check out this link to see where other people in your state have found grids/coroplast. http://www.guineapigcages.com/where.htm Just be VERY careful about buying grids from Target. They recently changed the grids and the holes are too big and pigs can get stuck in them and be severly injured/ killed from them. |

Hi fellow aussie! Cat grass is simply wheat grass, pigs go crazy for it! |

Thanks for worrying about my pigs, starshine, but I probably should have explained myself a bit better when talking about my cage, it's actually just about the same size as a 2x5, except that it's ten centimetres shorter lengthways (I couldn't fit it in the front door). I bought it from a privately owned shop run by a humanitarian who spends most of her time overseas saving monkeys.. or something. It's a somewhat specialised shop in that while it DOES sell stuff for cats and dogs it mainly has stock for small animals, birds and reptiles. Also... from what I can tell America seems to have different policies on how much room is acceptable for small animals... |

If you check the Australian section, there are a few threads in there about supplies and where to get them. |
