Star Hello from Palm Beach, Florida.

I'm actually in Western Palm Beach, but that doesn't make much of a difference.

I've been viewing the cavy c&c cage website on and off for a few months now, and have been having on-and-off ideas on actually building one. Today, I even figured out that there was a forum. That shows how smart I am.

Anyway, I am a cavy owner of one guinea-pig named Twix (like the candy) who lives in a hamster cage (explanation on my profile). Twix is my first and only cavy and if you've seen her video and my profile picture, you'll see that she has a unique hairstyle on top of her head. I'll have you know that this isn't because of me; she came to me that way.

My father gave Twix to me as a substitute for a pet of mine that ran away. I was surprised when I saw the recycling box in the kitchen, and even more surprised to hear squeaking. It sounded a lot like a pig.

"Come look what your dad gave you." said my mother. (Okay, now I know I'm telling a story, but let me finish!)

I hesitantly came closer, looked into the box, and and replied, "Uhh...".

"It's a guinea-pig." My mom spoke up.

There was a brief moment of silence, apart from Twix's random shuffling and squeaking.

"Well, It's... cute..." I stammered finally breaking the silence.

"I'm afraid of it!" My mom admitted.

"I like it." I decided to keep my new pet instead of refusing it.

I immediately went online to research everything about guinea-pigs, learned their nickname (cavy), and found this site.
---

I was hungry, so I named her after my favorite candy bar. (I named my cat the same way. His name is Oreo.)

I even learned how to hold her without fear. Twix has learned to trust me, and surprisingly, my cat.

Oh, and i'm planning on making her a C&C cage, don't worry. Her current cage is only 1 foot by two feet, and she doesn't mind having to live in it at the moment. I even trained her to hop back in when she's done touring the house. However, i'm sure she'll prefer a bigger cage. She'd LOVE that.

Welcome to GPC!!! Yes please make a C&C cage ASAP. You could give her an extra hour or 2 in a piggy safe room.

Hello & welcome to GPC!

I am so glad you found the site. have you seen Ly&pigs' diet chart yet? If not do check it out. It is a very easy to floow diet guide for your spoilt piggy.

Please do share some pics when you have that C&C ready.

Walmart have great fleece for bedding at $3.99 for a roll of 70"X40" and "Bed, Bath & Beyond" have their grids for an awesome deal especially with their coupons from the mailers (and it is the "good" grids too).

Enjoy the forum & much cheers!

Re: Hello from Palm Beach, Florida.

Whee! I'm so excited! My mom said I can have another piggy because I told her this logic:

"If people need friends to survive, so do guinea-pigs."

She laughed at first and said she doesn't want more trouble around the house with more pets, and I kept bothering her about it and she said yes!

My mom's friend has about 50 piggies and my local "no-kill" animal shelter just got some so i'll check those places.

I'm also buying the supplies for my C&C cage, I used my own money to buy fleece blankets at $1 each and a hand-vac, and tape, box cutters, etc.

I'm so excited!

Re: Hello from Palm Beach, Florida.

I honestly have no idea. She has chickens, rabits, etc. I guess she just likes keeping animals. I think it's a cultural thing for them. They keep piggies and chickens in Jamaica all the time, but they keep them in a huge wooden cage outside.

Re: Hello from Palm Beach, Florida.

Congrats on Twix(Love the name and Oreo). I currently have two Guinea pigs and you should post some picks of Twix. she sounds cute. I wish I had a C&C cage but my room isn't big enough.
