Smile I'm a Newbie! Hooray!

Hi everyone! I posted a question earlier before my intro - ooops!
I've been browsing this site for 3 weeks now, since my friends piggy gave birth unannounced. I met the boys several hours after birth and fell in love. My kids didn't have a hard time talking me into adopting them. They are so darn piggy cute!
I already bought some of my supplies to build them a C&C cage and am currently laundering fleece for them. They will be coming home next weekend I think. They are still nursing sometimes, but eating solid food mostly. When Ringo and Nigel come home I will figure out how to post a picture for you. Meanwhile, thanks for all of the wonderful information and pictures. This is such an awesome site. Keep up the great work!

Re: I'm a Newbie! Hooray!

Welcome to GPC. Have they been correctly sexed positively? Boars can impregnate the mom and any sow sibling by 21 days. If it's past that point, they all need to be separated as soon as possible. That's just some advice so you don't accidentally end up with a male and female, or a female that is already pregnant. Here is a link to a post from a Craigslist add that can show you what can happen if you get mis sexed pigs and then don't separate babies. HELP!!!!! Guinea pigs went out of control

I'm almost postive they are both boars. I had even wanted proof and was shown their tiny peenies. (They are the only babies) Tuesday will be their 3 week birthday. Gosh, I hope they keep it their pants till they get home! As soon as I get my cage finished during the week they'll be here. I just need to wait till Monday to get the cloroplast. Then hopefully the construction will go smoothly.

Re: I'm a Newbie! Hooray!

Oh, its really not that hard at all. I would make sure it is at least 2X4. Boars must have plenty of space, so it's best to go ahead and start off right. I have 5 boars now. They live in a 3X7 with a 1X7 loft. It is huge. I still feel it needs to be a little bigger though. But then again, I think every piggy slave feels that way.

Good Luck on your boys and I hope the cage comes along smoothly.
