First ever adoption! (Wyoming)

I've posted a couple times on this site already but I thought I should introduce myself and my piggies anyway! I am a stay-at-home mom who lives in Wyoming with my 20-month-old son, Mathew, two dogs, and two guinea pigs, and occassionally my husband. (He works in the oil industry so he's out in the field for two weeks at a time. Should be temporary though).

You'll be happy to know I am a convert! I have had pet store piggies most of my life but after doing a lot of reading on this site I decided my next pig friend should be adopted. For a few weeks I watched the papers, online classifieds, and petfinder.com but the closest adoptable piggy I could find was in Colorado, so the next time we visited our family down there, I made a little visit to the Boulder Humane Society and brought home Banana, a short-haired male piggy who's speckled brown and tan with a tan streak up his right side. He's very sweet and the noisiest piggy I've ever had! What's really eerie to me is the fact his coloring is almost exactly that of the first piggy I ever owned, except that his shade is a bit lighter. I guess it was meant to be!

I got Banana to be a companion to Lindy-Hop, another male short-hair who's dark dark brown with white and orange spots here and there (he's VERY pretty). Lindy's less talkative, but just a friendly. I haven't introduced them yet - Banana's still in isolation for another week - but I can't wait! I will try to remember to post pics once I've gottem them together.

Re: First ever adoption! (Wyoming)

I just realized after having the post open and reading it over a couple times (I'm also a stay-at-home mom of a 27 month old terror, so reading stuff takes ten minutes or more sometimes)... I love that you used Lindy-Hop to name your first piggie that you currently have, and then Jitterbug as your forum name... so I was wondering where "Banana" came from? It's not very dance-y, aside from Josephine Baker!

Re: First ever adoption! (Wyoming)

"Banana" is the name he came with when I adopted him. Jitterbug is the name of the first piggy I ever owned, and since they look so much alike I considered renaming him "Jitterbug Jr.", but in the end I decided there can only be one Jitterbug, and Banana just fit him so well! The streak up his side is the perfect shape and color of a peeled banana, and there was also the fact that "banana" happens to be one of my toddler's favorite words. ^_^

How cute!

My mom kept trying to get my son to say banana, but he kept saying nana, and so now... she is called Nana, and the fruits are Banana finally.
