Intro: Hello from South Florida

Hello everyone,

I'm Julia & I live in South Florida. I've been out of the Guinea Pig world for several years but I brought in with a rescue this week. I affectionately call myself the Crazy Rat Lady & it was a sweet male PEW in need of a new forever home that brought Guinness into our lives. I have renamed her Cruella DePig since Guinness just didn't seem right. Unlike those character from that Dalmatian story, Cruella is an absolute sweetheart... it is the hairdo that earned her the name.

I've joined the group here with hopes to re-learn all things piggy for the benefit of our new family member.

I look forward to reading all of your stories & learning from your wisdom & experience.

So without further delay & without boring you to tears about my boring human existence (hehe)... time for piggy-pics!

Cruella recently had a buzz-cut from her previous Mommy. I plan to let it grow out at least once just so we can see her in her full glory. If I find I can maintain it then I will keep her lovely long locks.

Oh, Cruella does have very pretty hair. I can't wait to see pigtures of it long. I'm so glad she found her way into your life.

Cruella is such a pretty girl! I love that second picture, with her longer hair. Congratulations on the sweet and adorable new addition.

Welcome. Beautiful pig but she isn't a PEW if she has black on her. PEWs are completely white with pink eyes.

She looks like a Silkie mix.

No, the rat that I rescued is a PEW... sorry for the confusion

From the research I have done thus far, I too believe she is a Silkie, the woman I got her from told me she is a Silkie & the description I read somewhere google directed me to very much fits her. I find no rosettes & she is such a lap-pig.

As for mix... who can say or speculate mix or purity since I have no pedigree. Doesn't matter, we love her, she loves us & even though I can trace my family back for well over 200 yrs (two books published about our FL pioneer history)... we are just a pack of mutts with no pedigree papers as well.

Thank you Harry's Dad

She is already such a spoiled piggy. She refuses to go back into the cage she came to us with since I put her in the huge one I made based on the C&C designs. She has taken over my 17 yr old daughters bedroom. We placed a ramp so she could go back & forth in the cage so that we could keep her food & water in there but she had a hissy fit & just fussed at us until everything was brought out of the cage & placed out on the area carpet for her.

What a diva-pig

Does she go back into the cage at all? Sounds like you need to potty box train her if she is going to run the room

We placed an area rug down that can be easily cleaned & we are working on litter training. I was able to litter train bunnies so I am hopeful I will be successful with her. This should work until I can find a local source for coroplast that sells the stuff at a reasonable price. I've been looking for a while now because I have other types of furkids in the house & I need to make pans in order to keep litter from being tossed around.
