New to pigs

Howdy all!

Our family recently grew by two. Our pigs, Chocolate and Vanilla, were acquired this past Tuesday. They were a present to my son for completing kindergarten. He has been begging for a pet for a good while and I finally managed to talk my wife into getting one. Of course I think she has become more attached to them than anyone. We have all be having fun. Both are finally starting to come out of their shells although they are still a tad skittish. Both are male and were cage mates at the pet store ( yes, I know, shame on us, but someone has to give those guys good homes.).

Anyway, we look forward to reading more of this forum and continuing our learning so that we may provide the best home for our pigs as possible.

Meet Chocolate and Vanilla.

Re: New to pigs

Welcome.

It isn't that some pets don't serve good homes. ALL PETS do but the issue is there is a pet overpopulation problem. There are not enough homes to go around. So start with homing the ones languishing in shelters and in rescues. Not the purpose bred ones and creating more market demand for them, and lining the breeders/pet mills and pet stores' pockets.

Re: New to pigs

Hi, I just wanted to add you may want to check their gender to ensure they are both males. Many petstores mis-sex animals, resulting in unwanted litters.
