Re: Hola! From Mexico!

Welcome! It sounds like you have your hands full. I love all the names, I have a Daphne also.

I do have one question-- Your rats, are they male and female?

Re: Hola! From Mexico!

Hello!
Yes... I definitely need to have a schedule down to make sure everyone gets enough of my time.
Yes...Gus is male and Luna is a female. I didn't plan it that way, but I really don't feel that it's right to separate them now. I have a good friend who is a vet, and he is coaching me through the breeding process as he has been breeding rats for a long while now. He is also willing to take the babies to his clinic and place them up for adoption when they come. This will be their first and only litter. I am separating them afterwards, and getting new friends (of the same sex) for each of them. Thanks for your concern!

Re: Hola! From Mexico!

Can I ask why you are breeding? There is a major overpopulation problem going throughout the world, and breeding only adds to that. For every animal that is bred another in a shelter dies. Just to give you a heads up, this forum and site is pro-rescue and anti-breeding.

Otherwise, welcome to the forums!

Re: Hola! From Mexico!

Hello!
I love it that you have alot of animals, I too have many!
(Two birds, Two Dogs, One Guinea pig, but I am likely getting another very soon) As for your rats though, please seperate them while your ahead, once your female rat has her pups, she will go into heat and will just get bred again. Also, this is just an idea but what if you kept a male baby and a female baby so that it is just easier? Good luck!
EDIT: Ash, she say's that she didn't plan it this way.

Re: Hola! From Mexico!

I would definatly recommend having Luna spayed after the surgery, as well as any female babies she has. Once they are all spayed they can live together. Females should be spayed anyway to reduce the possibility of getting tumors.

Oh, and I would love to see pictures of everyone.

Edit: I agree, they should be seperated now, especially if Luna is pregnant. She will most likely become aggressive towards Gus during the pregnancy, plus he could get her pregnant seconds after she gives birth.

Edit again: As you have probably gathered, I have 2 ratties as well. Both males: Jasper and Jinx.

Re: Hola! From Mexico!

Thanks everyone!
I really appreciate all of your concerns, and would like to make it quite clear that I am absolutely NOT intentionally breeding my babies. I agree that the world is being overpopulated by uneducated breeders. I am afraid that the damage has already been done, and I am doing my best to insure that this does not happen with them again. I tell you what...I am going to start a thread in the Rats section so that we might continue this discussion away from the introductions section.
See you there!
