Hi, newbie saying Hi

Hi,
I am Michelle, along with my finance Shawn, and my daughter Anna we have a mini farm inside our apartment. We find sites like this very helpful. We have 4 piggies, 3 bunnies, 2 hamsters, 1 ferret, 1 aquadic frog, 1 beta, and a cat.

We used to have a lot of little cages and gave every one as much out time as possible but now we have huge c&c cages for everyone. Everyone gets a ton of veggies and goodies every day also.

I came on this site through a random google search and just love it so we all decided to join. This farm is a team effort and I am showing my finance how to live on a farm and everyone makes sure all the chores are done and how lucky we are to have it. He is loving it. My daughter is learning to not give up on something and she has a responsibility to it and owes them her time. She does well. So that is all just wanted to stop in and say HI!

Re: Hi, newbie saying Hi

fHi and welcome! If you have the farm, my family has the zoo! ! Our pets (2 cavies, 3 ferrets, 3 degus, 2 rats, a chinchilla, 3 snakes, 2 lizards, a turtle, 6 frogs, 3 dogs and 2 cats) take up a lot of our time-- but like you, I find that the lessons my children have learned in caring for them are priceless. Our kids (16, 14, and 9) know that a pet is a responsibility for life, and that it isn't all fetch and frolic. Dogs need walked in the wintertime, and in the rain. Sometimes we have to go without a luxury because we had an expensive vet bill that needed paid. EVERYTHING with teeth (so the albino clawed frogs are exempt! hehe) can, and probably will eventually bite you. And everything that eats, also poops! Though each of the animals technically is a particular child's pet (our older son has the snakes (but for one, which is mine), the younger is king of the frogs, etc) , pet chores are always a family affair. And the animals eat before we do!

Wow that is quite a party! Well some people don't care for the number of animals I have but I figure why not it is not hurting them and my animals get top rate care so what harm can it bring right? Anyway I like this place it seems like a great source of information. I am an information freak I love it...I am always asking questions...Thanks for the reply

Welcome to the forum! I would love to see pictures of your animals and cages.

However, I do have one question-- Are your males and females seperate? On your profile it sounds like you are keeping them all together in a 2x5.

Re: Hi, newbie saying Hi

Hi and thank you, as for our cage size it is actually 2x5 on the bottom level that the boys get all open to run and enjoy, then I have a ramp going to the second level for the boys that is 2x2.5, that is where their water and sleeping areas are. It's where they spend most of their time unless they want something then the run around down stairs and oink at me, then they have a loft that is about 1.5x2 That is higher that they can see the females but not get to them. It's very cool. Then the girls are partitioned by the mesh and a piece of board so they can not do anything like get pregnant. Their part of the cage starts with a 2x2 area that has their food and water bottle and a little area to crawl in and out of, then they have a two part ramp that has a 1x1 landing then the other part of the ramp that goes up to the third area it is 2x5 and mostly open, they love the area under the ramps as snuggle nests as I call them. Then they have a 2x2 loft that is taken up halfway by a hamster cage that they seem to love, they can go up to this level and look around and they do it all the time. Sometimes they even popcorn her. She is a great hamster, I have read that they can be mean and unwilling but she is not that way at all, she is very happy, she has a wire cage with all her amenities. she gets the most out time due to the fact that she can be in a ball and she can not be hurt. The girls love her because she plays with them.
So in all reality my cage is huge and I want to get some pictures of it but they are just not turning out right. I used to have them in a 30x30 inch cage and when I came on to this website I showed my finance and we felt horrible so we built them a huge cage and they are so happy. The girls we adopted after the cage was built. My finance is wiring the cage for lights, he wants to make the cage more like a house for them.

Re: Hi, newbie saying Hi

ok, ok, you pulled my leg. In the closed multi level section there are pictures of this monster cage. It is labeled Three story cage. I just put them up so they are recent. I don't know how to get them to show up here. Sorry.

Re: Hi, newbie saying Hi

Hi and Welcome to gpc!
I have a bit of a zoo also I have 2 Guinea Pigs (soon to be more), 1 Hamster, 2 Cats, 3 Dogs, 3 Goats, 1 Horse, 1 Pony and 3 Chickens. Half of which stays in my room (the gpigs, hammy and cats) Your cage looks very nice, the only suggustion I would have would be to get rid of a few of the toys so that they can have more room to run laps and popcorn. Also that chewing log thing on the right side of the 2nd level should be thrown away, they are really bad for them, they are basically alfalfa glued together with honey and full of preservatives...simply put they are really bad for them.
Anyways, welcome to the forums I'm sure you'll love it here, I sure do.

Re: Hi, newbie saying Hi

Your cage is amazing.
I have 2 dogs, 2 large birds, and one (Going to be two, again) cavies.
Some people think we have way too many animals and in a way it sort of bugs me but I too, think that it doesn't cause any harm and they are all taken care of so who cares!
