Re: new cavy mommy

Hi, New Mommy, Don't feel badly and certainly don't take it personally. GPs are prey animals with few defenses, so it takes them a long time to be comfortable in their surroundings. In time, with patience and gentleness, they will come around. I have one that loves to be stroked, have his chin scratched and to be snuggled. The other one acts like I'm going to kill him every time that I approach him and I've had them almost 3 years. They are a gas and getting to know each other is alot of fun. Welcome to the forum and the world of piggies.

PS - They're gorgeous.

Re: new cavy mommy

Hi and welcome to Cavy Cages, its good to have another Missourian around I'm just like an hour and a half west of you. Its normal for them to be scared, as toadies said they are prey animals and we problemly look like the boogy monster to them. When you say treats do you mean veggies, petstore treats are no good and are really bad for them, the best treats to give are extra veggies.

Re: new cavy mommy

Hi there. Don't worry - I thought one of my pigs was always going to be terrified of me, because he is extremely skittish, but he fell asleep on my lap the other day. If he's willing to sleep on my lap, he can't be that scared hm? He still freaks a little over any movement I make though, so I think that's just the way he is. My other pig comes running when I make any noise, because he loves attention. They're just two different personalities. Keep playing with them and maybe try curling up with them in a blanket some time when you're reading or watching TV - I think that made my shy pig feel more safe.
