hey, me and my sister just got 2 guinea pigs, both girls, mines a black, brown, and white absynnian and hers i think its a white crested/amercian, twister and luna. i studied for about 30 hours(seriously) and they have a huge waterbottle, a huge C&C cage(thanks jenny!), a hay roller thing which they love, and everyday i give them a few carrots, sometimes apple as a treat, lettuce, and broccoli. also a handful of pellets a day, and some mroe toys and stuff. im really happy to be here! We have had Twister (mine) and Luna (my sisters) for 7 days. i think they are starting to like us cause they dont run away anympore and this morning when my mom open the cabinets to get breakfast they both started wheeking like insane! they are really fun and love there igloo, im thinking about putting them on a higher surface but my parents just ignore me, hehe well anyways, thanks.

Re: Hey everyone! Congratulations on your new piggies! Check out the Nutrition Charts and Sample Veggie menus for more advice on your piggies' diets. Carrots should be limited to about 1 baby carrot per piggy per day, and broccoli should also not be fed daily (as it is too gassy). Good staples of your piggy's veggie menu could be lettuces (but NOT iceberg), bell peppers, cilantro, endive, radicchio, corn husks, a little bit of carrot, a single cherry tomato. Broccoli (or other foods in that family -- cauliflower, cabbage, etc.) should be given only once or twice a week. They can have dandelion or carrot greens twice a week. a little fruit twice a week (apple is fine, or try a little kiwi or maybe a raspberry or strawberry sometime). Our little guy just LOVES endive. It seems expensive at $4/lb, but a little head of endive ends up costing about $1 and lasts about a week, so it's not really that bad.

Re: Hey everyone! Welcome to the group Twister. Good for you for researching before getting your piggers. I would definitely check out the information PhoenixFeather gave you it's a great resource to find out what the feed your guinea pigs. I like to print out a list and hang it by the fridge. This way everyone in the house can have a look, and it's great to take to the grocery store as well. It sounds like you have a great start.
