Oscar and Pauly! Some of you might have read my posts about the guinea pig rescue in the MSPCA system. I am happy to report that on Thursday I came home with two very friendly boys, Oscar (about 3 months) and Pauly (full grown, exact age unknown). In just 4 days' time, they have gone from hiding quietly under their hay to running around, chatting and playing in their pen and rushing to greet us when we arrive with something yummy. See pictures and follow their progress at their blog!

Re: Oscar and Pauly! Welcome to the forum. Be sure to check out all the sticky threads at the top of all the forums. They hold a bunch of great information for you. Read your blog. Great pictures! Please post more. Just one thing I would like to point out. You might want to limit the kale. It is high in calcium. Check out Ly's chart. It tells you what can be fed and how frequently. If you feed kale once a week, you can feed one other purple highlighted item 1 additional time. A combination of purple highlighted items should not exceed 2 times per week. If you feed kale 2 times per week, you cannot add any other purple highlighted items. Good everyday items are the cilantro, romaine, red and green leaf lettuce, green bell peppers (yellow are good too) and radicchio. Make sure they get at least 1 cup per pig per day. More is ok.

Re: Oscar and Pauly! I have the chart in my bag for when I'm out marketing. I -love- it. At this point, we are trying to toss anything we can think of into the cage to see what they'll eat. They had nothing but pellets -ever- until they were rescued and are just now figuring out they can eat other stuff. We keep a pretty much constant supply of baby greens/lettuces in their pen. It's hard to tell sometimes who is eating what, but they go through about 3 cups a day. They split a baby carrot every morning. Every time their lettuce is refreshed, we add something on top (peppers, apple slice, fresh herbs) to see what they might like. A note on kale from our vet (referencing our bunny's diet)- it is low in moisture and high in fiber and is digested similarly to hay, as in the body treats it as roughage and absorbs little as far as nutrients go. I'll ask her if it's the same for guinea pigs. We add it to our bunny's hay if she's feeling persnickety about it.

Re: Oscar and Pauly! Welcome to the forum! Make sure to take note of the sticky threads on the top of each subforum they are full of info! I'm also going to give you a few links that might help you out you might have seen them but just to be safe I'll give them anyway. First is a link to a page on links then a link to Kleenmama's hayloft the hay there is absulutely great from what I've heard (I don't have piggies yet but I'm getting some soon). I also heard it is cheaper then Oxbrow (another online hay site). I hope you enjoy the site as much as I am and oh if you have any questions I'll be happy to answer them! PS. Your pigs are adorable! http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/...ost-first.html Kleenmama's Hayloft
