Smile New here, and to cavies in general...

Hello all,

I'm ArtisticRainey, and i've just found this site. I got my piggies three days ago -- they do rather hate me at the moment, but it's early days I guess. I don't even have names for them yet. One appears to be a white silkie who's had his coat trimmed, and the other is a self, chocolate coloured. 'Whitey' runs about a lot while 'Choccy' doesn't, but 'Whitey' is a lot more skittish of me and won't let me touch him, while 'Choccy' does. They're brothers, not sure what age exactly.

I've devoted a 80"x70" space in my bedroom for them by lining my own carpet with another layer that they can do whatever they like to. The walls are only cardboard at the moment, but I'd like to get some of the C&C stuff instead, maybe add another layer. I've built a little house for them, as well as providing some other shelters and lined them with hay. They have their store-bought cage too that they can walk in and out of if they want.

So that's about it. Thanks.

AR

Welcome to the forums! If you have any questions about anything feel free to ask, in the meantime read through the stickies located at the top of each forum as they hold invaluable information about everything from nutrition to cages, bedding to toys.

What is your boys diet like?

Re: New here, and to cavies in general...

Thanks for the welcome. Don't worry, I'm diligently reading all of the stickies.

They get plenty of fresh vegetables (being a vegetarian, I always have loads on hand). I've been checking out the handy nutrition lists and warnings on what not to feed the piggies so I'll be sure to heed them. They get nice plain pellets too, and an unlimited supply of hay. They sure do love that stuff.

Thanks again.

Welcome to the forum!

Make sure to take note of the sticky threads on the top of each subforum they are full of info! I'm also going to give you a few links that might help you out you might have seen them but just to be safe I'll give them anyway. First is a link to a page on links then a link to Kleenmama's hayloft the hay there is absulutely great from what I've heard (I don't have piggies yet but I'm getting some soon). I also heard it is cheaper then Oxbrow (another online hay site). I'm afraid I don't much about cages but I'm making one soon. Anyway I hope you are enjoying the forum as much as I am and if you have any questions I'll be happy to answer them.

PS. Pigtures are a must!
