Yes New here and have a question

Hi, I'm new here and have a question. I have 4 male piggy's. I will post pigtures asap!! 3 of them get along great but they all pick on #4. They chase him aound to the point where he is squeeling and hiding. I've tried the buddy bath. They all got along fine in the tub but when after the poor piggy when back in a freshly cleaned cage. I've seperated him. I feel bad that he's alone but am afraid to adopt another pigmate for him. Does anyone have any ideas? I woud greatly appriciate any advise. By the way, the 3 that get along are named Nibbler, Niblet, and Orea. The lone pigger is Sundae. They have a 3x3 cand c cage( thanks to this site) with an l shaped loft where Sundae has been residing.

Re: New here and have a question

Welcome to the forum! Hope you have a good time here.

In answer to your question, I think you may have to be prepared for four males to not get on. A few people have three boys together but they usually don't get on in big groups like girls would. I also think your cage is a little too small for four male pigs - a 3x3 would be 9 squares total wheras the recommended for 3 pigs is 2x5 which would be 10 squares. Boys normally prefer a bit more room so maybe increasing the cage size a little would help, or even if the four didn't get on it would help keep the peace with the other 3. Did you put all four back into the cage after the bath, or put them somewhere else for a while? If you put them back into the cage, even if you cleaned it the three might regard it as their cage and not like the fourth coming in. I'd recommend leaving them to meet in a neutral area, maybe the bathroom floor or you could set up a big pen made of grids. Also, it isn't recommended you seperate them unless there is bloodshed. Have you read this page on Cavy Spirit? It might help you out with the introductions ~ http://www.cavyspirit.com/sociallife.htm

If things don't work out, if you are able to adopt another piggy, perhaps you could either adopt a spayed female, or get Sundae nuetered and adopt a female. They would probably get on very well, but you musn't put a female in with a group of boys or fighting is inevitable!

Hope I helped a bit! Feel free to ask any other questions we're here to help

Re: New here and have a question

Firstly dont keep separating them unless blood is drawn, as hard as it may be to watch. By continously separating them you are making the whole process of working out who is boss alot harder.

Find a nuetral area and introduce them again, they will exhibit behaviours such as mounting, butt sniffing, chasing, nipping and teeth chattering. These are all normal.

Your cage is too small and that is another reason as to why they are not getting along. 4 boys need a 2x6 which equals to 12 square grids, a 3x3 equals to 9 square grids, and with the ramp taking away 1 grid of space on the bottom floor your cage is even smaller. Upper floors do not count towards overall square footage.

Re: New here and have a question

Welcome to the forum!

Ditto to all of the above and make sure to take note of the sticky threads on the top of each subforum they are full of info! I'm also going to give you a few links that might help you out you might have seen them but just to be safe I'll give them anyway. First is a link to a page on links then a link to Kleenmama's hayloft the hay there is absulutely great from what I've heard (I don't have piggies yet but I'm getting some soon). I also heard it is cheaper then Oxbrow (another online hay site). I hope you enjoy the site as much as I am and oh if you have any questions I'll be happy to answer them!

PS. Pigtures are a must!
