Smile Finally Introducing myself & piggies

Hello, I've visited here for a long time now. And I thought I'd finally introduce Mocha and Peter. I have had them for about a year now. Mocha is a brown male. And Peter is a white and brown female. She's named Peter because we thought she was a boy, until we got Mocha. And began to wonder why he was so "interested" in Peter. Violated is "personal" space a little...and discovered he had something Peter didn't. . So off to the vet Mocha went.
This site is wonderful! I've learned so much about my babies!

Re: Finally Introducing myself & piggies

Welcome to the forum!

Make sure to take note of the sticky threads on the top of each subforum they are full of info. Oh I'm going to give you some links that may help you out if you haven't seen them. First is a link to Kleenmama's hayloft it is a great site to get hay off of and from what I have heard it is absulutely amazing and cheap. Then is a link to a page of links that might help you out if you haven't seen them. Anyway I hope you are enjoying the forum and if you have any questions I will be happy to answer them. I'm going to give you some info on pregnant sows because there's a great chance if they were together that your girl is pregnant.

Oh cavies under six months should have alfalfa hay which has extra calcium in it which will help with making their bones nice and strong. Once the babies are over six months you should mix the timothy hay in with some alafa hay a few times a week.

Oh and here's some more info on pregnant pigs and babies,
-try not to handle her that much

-Pregnant and nursing sows actually benefit from alfalfa hay with some
grass hay

- Add some calcium enriched veggies like parsley and spinach. Here's a great calcium chart. Guinea Lynx :: Calcium Chart

- Separate any males in the litter at three weeks because at that age they can't get their mother and sisters pregnant. Here's a great page on sexing http://www.cavyspirit.com/sexing.htm

-Make sure to baby proof your cage add at least four inches of coroplast. Ten inches is a good height for it to be at and make sure they can't squeeze through the grids. Here are some pictures of some baby proofed cages http://www.guineapigcages.com/photos...ry.php/cat/532.

- Keep critical care on hand in case of an emergency.

- Here are some other extra links
Guinea Lynx :: Reproduction
Guinea Lynx :: Vegetable and Fruit Charts this one may help anyway.

Re: Finally Introducing myself & piggies

Nope, no one is pregnant. That was a year ago when we first got them. And Mocha was fixed the very next day. Thank you though!
