New here I was searching the internet in hopes of updating a 4H manual on Cavy care and found this site. I'm now intriqued. We currently have two male cavies in separate cages in our kids bedrooms. Each day the cavies get about an hour of out time, some days even more time out. Part is for holding, and part for play on the floor now. I'm going to try and change the cages, as I've learned alot on here. The issue is we are in a very small space. Instead of a 2 by 3 grid I was thinking of a 1 by 5 grid. So it would be narrow but long for each cavy. Would that still be ok? Right now they are in small cages from the pet store.. on the bad advice of a 4H leader. I've spent the better part of the past few days measuring to fit larger cages in, and best solution is the 14in by 70 inch. It would fit on top of shelving unit I have. So would that be better or not?? Plus, we still have a blanket out on the floor in the living room and the cavies play there each day.

Re: New here I would say to stop with the playing(if they do tell me if I read it wrong) with eachother if they don't live with eachother. Because all there doing is reintroducing eachother and establishing dominance. Also a 1x5 would not work. It is yes long enough but it's to slender and you could barely but a hidey house in there. They would have problems turning around and all that jazz. So...it would be better if...maybe you could rearange some furinture and try fitting a 2x3 in there. But also...welcome to the forums. And it seems you are getting more information just keep researching.

Re: New here Welcome to the forum! Make sure to take note of the sticky threads on the top of each subforum they are full of info! I'm also going to give you a few links that might help you out you might have seen them but just to be safe I'll give them anyway. First is a link to a page on links then a link to Kleenmama's hayloft the hay there is absulutely great from what I've heard (I don't have piggies yet but I'm getting some soon). I also heard it is cheaper then Oxbrow (another online hay site). I'm afraid I don't much about cages but I'm making one soon. Anyway I hope you are enjoying the forum as much as I am and if you have any questions I'll be happy to answer them. PS. Pigtures are a must! http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/...ost-first.html Kleenmama's Hayloft
