| My late introduction. I never made a formal introduction even though I have posted here for a month or so. I’m Allan and my girlfriend Christine and I are now proud guinea pig parents. In addition now to GPs my other interests include Motorcycles, I ride a Suzuki V-Strom DL650K7 I’m planning a purchase of a CBR600F3 for track use next season and am very much looking forward to that experience. My other major interests is cinema and home theater (translation I’m a film buff and I have put allot of resources into the accurate screening of movies at home to the best of my budget). My girlfriend is a full time student and works full time so does not have much time for more than our pigs and her doll collection.
One thing I’d like to apologize for is getting our GPs from a pet store. I knew you could adopt dogs and cats but never heard of adopting a guinea pig. I do blame myself a bit for not doing enough research before and trusting what the pet store employees say. I know when I walk into most electronics stores or motorcycle dealers that %99 of what comes out of their mouth is not true. I should have done more research, I feel bad about it, and any future pigs will be adopted/rescued. We all make mistakes, nobody is perfect, and I believe it’s what you learn from mistakes and how you conduct yourself in the future that matters. That is all I have to say about that.
Onto the pigs. They are two Americans one medium brown and one a light brown and dark brown/black striped. Their names are Mojo (named after the dog from the recent Transformers film) and Gizmo (from the film Gremlins). I’m not sure how old they are as I never thought to ask and return visits to the pet store could not find anyone who remembered those specific GP’s. I’m looking for a cavy savvy vet around my area but not living in a major metropolitan area I am not having much luck. I’m going to start looking around Akron/Cleveland/Pittsburgh soon unless I find one in Youngstown. They are both boys, I know because I saw both of their boy parts during their dominant mounting of each other. It was embarrassingly obvious, epically when they tried to mount each other from the wrong end.
Mojo and Gizmo started out there lives with us in a “large” pet store cage. They got the pet store recommended amounts of hay (one handful a day), pellets and veggies only as treats and had that C stuff in there water. A week or so later once I found this site I immediately changed their diets. I purchased more hay, and this weekend am going to a feed store to get a bale, they get daily veggies and fresh plain water every day. I made a large playpen for lots of floor time and made them a 1x4 cage while we figured out what we could do to make some room for a proper cage. About a month later we found some nice high shelves that two of which would replace the floor pace of three shorter ones. This gave us enough room to move the kitchen table out a bit closer to the living area and assemble a proper 2x4 C&C cage. All told they spent only a couple weeks in their pet store cage and a month in the 1x4.
They are now very happy in their 2x4 cage doing mad piggy laps, popcorning, and enjoying unlimited hay and fresh veggies.
Both my piggy’s and I are glad I found this site and look forward to sharing all our piggy adventures with everyone here.
I’ll post some photos once I can find them when they will stand still long enough for a well composed shot. |
