Cool Lynn from Michigan

Hello! I'm so glad I found this site!

I'm Lynn. My cavies are Linny (yes, named after the guinea pig on Wonder Pets) and Trigger. We've had Linny for almost one month and Trigger joined our family today - both were adopted from previous owners.

Linny had a companion in his previous home, however, they were separated due to "a lot of fighting". I think the fighting was due mostly to inadequate space and the poor care received.

Trigger came to us from a friend of my neighbor. "He" is less than one year old. Well cared for - except for a cage that is far too small and an uneducated owner that gave him an exercise ball. His previous owner suffered from allergies and asthma and needed to find a new home for Trigger.

Both Linny and Trigger are delightful. I think they will make excellent companions for each other - eventually.

During this month of quarantine, I intend to build them a nice new cage. My plan right now is start with a boring old crib that we are no longer using... I've got it drawn up roughly right now. Further development of the plan will happen once I confirm the gender/s of my piggies. I suspect they are both boys.

I've spent almost all evening (and night) reading the site, searching out suppliers of corroplast, and drawing up designs for our piggies new home. An open top cage wasn't an option until I thought of the crib - the top of it is high enough my almost two year old and the dogs won't be able to get at the piggies!! Definite lightbulb moment. At the moment, our piggies are in store bought cages that came with them from their previous owners.

I'm also mommy to three human children (12, 4, and almost 2), two dogs, two birds, a cat, and some fish. Our family provides foster care also (to human children) - we have always found the animal members of our family to help the children learn to bond (if they can't bond with a human, they usually bond with at least one of our animals). I truly believe that our new piggies will help in this also.

I was so excited to find this site!! Looking forward to sharing and learning with all of you.

Welcome to the forum!

Kudos to you for fostering children that is truly amazing. Anyway I'll give you a link to a page of links that might help you out a lot if you haven't seen it. I'm going to give you a link to Oxbrow in case you haven't seen that site either it's a great place to order hay from and their hay is much better quality then petstore hay. Oh I hope you are enjoying the site as much as I am and if you have any questions I will be happy to answer them.

Welcome!
Turning a crib into a piggy cage is a great idea! How big are the inner deminsions though? I bet it will be awesome when done. Well welcome and I hope to see you around the forums. Oh and here is another link for good hay and food I think its cheaper then Oxbow and it is the same quality. Kleenmama's Hayloft :: Home I dont get hay from here yet but other members do and they say they love it!

Pigtures, Pigtures, Pigtures. Please, we are a little picture obsessed here
But how can we help it piggys are so cute.

Re: Lynn from Michigan

I posted a picture of each of my piggies! My Gallery I think they're the most beautiful piggies on the planet, but then - I'm biased! LOL Don't we all think "our" piggies are the most beautiful!?!

I've learned so much since coming here! Thank you for sharing those links, I'll definitely be checking them out. I've recently discovered our local TSC store carries a fair selection of guinea pig products.

Re: Lynn from Michigan

Oops! Mistakenly posted photos of my guys in the gallery. I guess I was tired and not thinking.

Here are photos of my little boys.

Trigger

I know their current cages are inadequate. I'm more educated now and my husband and I are going to build them a modified C&C cage this weekend (and next). My boys are technically still in quarantine and can't be together until mid-November.

I give them lots of floor time using my son's old playyard. It's one of the 8 panel octagon things... I have it separated into two four panel sections that I use for closing off my kitchen. My guys don't seem to mind the linoleum, as I cover it with newspaper & towels.
