Hi from nibbles, sophi, and Jessica

Hi im Jessica and I have 2 pigs and one of themis pregnant and the babies are due on October 31 ! We think that she is going to have 3! I am new to piggies and they have 2 cages now that they are separated. She has a 5.4 sq. ft cage that she is only using because its baby proof! He is in a 7.5 sq. ft. cage by himself until the babies are too big! Its a 2x2 c&c with a 1 cube loft. I am moving soon to a bigger house so I can have a bigger room and a promised pig room! So hopefully I can get a bigger cage then. They have lots of toys and have a 2 hour daily out of the cage time.

Re: Hi from nibbles, sophi, and Jessica

Hi and welcome to GPC. I hope you find a wealth of info on our forum.

I do have to inform you though that a 2x2 C&C doesn't equal 7.5sq. ft. More like maybe 5-6 sq. ft. Lofts do not count towards square footage and it would take a 2x3 to equal 7.5 sq. ft.

My pregnant guinea pig Sophi had her baby yesterday his name is Tater tot. I have already made arrangements to have my friend Matt have him. He is going to live in his room. He is going to be spoiled to death and loved so if any of you wanted him he is taken!

Re: Hi from nibbles, sophi, and Jessica

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the babies.

Make sure to take note of all the sticky threads on the top of each board they are extremely useful. I'm going to give you some links to some useful places and threads since I don't know much about baby pigs and pregnant sows.

First is a link to Ly's nutrition chart which is absolutely amazing and very useful, next is a link to guinea lynx which also has tons of info. Oh and when the babies are born they can almost immediately start eating solid food and for pigs under six months they should have alfalfa hay which has extra calcium which will help your pig's growing bones. I think your supposed to give some calcium enriched veggies as well (correct me if I'm wrong). Once they are over six months they should get it a couple times a week but you should mix it with some timothy hay.

Next is a link to oxbrow and there you can order hay their hay is of great quality and much better then any petstore hay. The next link is a link to a thread which tons of info as well and has helped me out a lot like all of these links. Last is a link to a page by Cavy spirit about sexing pigs it will help when the babies are born because the males can get their sisters and mother pregnant at three weeks old. I know I gave a lot of links but they are very useful. If you have any questions feel free to ask and I hope you enjoy the forum is much as I do!

Re: Hi from nibbles, sophi, and Jessica

Congrats and you should refer your friend to this site and make sure to tell him he can't keep Tater tot all alone since cavies are herd animals. Oh make sure to tell him to rescue the pig if he gets another one. Oh if you can make sure to have him read this page.
