Hi there. =) I am a new (about 5 weeks)"owner" (more like slave) to my adorable piggie named Elvis. Sadly, I did buy my baby from a pet store, not realizing the evils that places partake in. However, the deed is done and I'm doing my best to care for my new addition. In my quest for knowledge I came across this site and am thrilled and quite thankful for this place. I have learned quite a bit and I know Elvis is very thankful for that. Hehe.

A lil about Elvis:

He is a coronet tricolored guy. I am not sure how old he is, but he isn't very big. He resides in a 2x3 C&C cage for now. I would like to adopt a friend for him and enlarge his cage as soon as I can. However, being in a small town, there isn't a rescue here to obtain one from. Perhaps in the near future can make a trip out of town to find him a friend. For the time being he is happy as can be. He loves to popcorn around and makes semi laps around the place.

He was addicted to hiding in his pigloo but with the addition of a hay rack he likes to lay under it and pull the straws down and munch lazily. He loves and I do mean loves romaine lettuce (he will not eat the centers of the leaves though). He will chew on a carrot piece every so often. However, Elvis does not seem in the least bit interested in the many other foods I have offered him. I keep offering a small tasting of them though so maybe he will one day become interested.

He is coming around more and more everyday and his hiding from me is decreasing. He really doesn't care to be held and when I do he will run up my shoulder and hide in my hair. Elvis is a bit of a feisty lil thing, he will nibble my fingers when I hold him to let me know time to put him down. He has been tolerating my light scratching of his back more so lately but still doesnt like me getting to close to his bottom. I try to give him floor time but he runs straight for his cage and wheeks to be put back in. I oblige and hear him chatter with glee as his little feet touch the bottom of it.

A lil about me:

I am 24. I have been married 6 years now. Have a 5 year old little boy and am guardian to my 17 year old baby sister. I have a 3 year old fat brat kitty named Raven (aka Ravey Cat). Her and my son are the double trouble team and absolutely are infatuated with each other. We all just recently moved to AZ from Louisiana. Big life change but we are enjoying it so far.

Hey, Welcome! I'm from AZ as well. There is actually a GREAT rescue here, its called Arizona Piggie Poo Rescue, look them up online. They are in Anthem, which is a good deal north of where I live (Gilbert), but the drive is worth it. They just got in a shippment from San Diego. They work with another rescue there, and take in piggies when they can. I would encourage you to get in touch with them. They are SUPER friendly.

By the way, my name is Heidi, I'm 20, and I have 4 piggies myself. One rescue, 2 petstore piggies, and one baby (a result of the two eptstore piggies which were "both females" bah). Love them to death. They have more room in my room than I do. They have 2x5, connected 2x3 cage.

Welcome to the forum. I'm in New Orleans but we too are planning on moving because of how bad things have gotten since Katrina. Did you move for the same reasons?

I know there is an SPCA in Las Vegas, which is much closer, that has some piggies, probably will try that first. I like your cage, its very nice. I was thinking about making an L shaped one once get another buddy so as to not waste the current cage made. Your babies are adorable too. Sigh, baby cavy, how sweet.[/FONT]

[FONT=Arial]VoodooJoint~ Sorry about the previous av, was a bit distracted when uploading and missed the cavy only policy. :O We lived closer to TX and were hit pretty hard by Rita. Our city never fully recovered and many businesses either never reopened or closed shortly there after. Sadly the city seems to be dying and just the poverty seemed to be getting worse. My son started school this fall and I wanted him to be in a good environment. Also the high school my sister was attending was horrible.[/FONT]

Hi! One of my babys is named Elvis as well!!! He is my poser--will stay absolutely still for photos until I am able to snap just the right one! He is my most mellow baby. I have five little ones right right now--Elvis, Priscilla, their 5 week old babies Lisa Marie and Presley, and GraceLynn, our newest adoptee. I think that is it for us--we have no more room!

Welcome babybunny, so glad you found this great sight. You won't find a better place for piggy slaves anywhere on the net!!

Please don't beat yourself up about buying Elvis from a pet store. (He is so cute by the way.) I bought my 2 pigs from a pet store several years ago, because I, too, was uninformed about the evils of pet stores. But since finding this board, I am doing everything I possibly can to make things right for my boys. I am so thankful I found this site before it was too late for them.

I just want to briefly mention your teen sister. Listen, I don't know what the circumstances were in your lives that resulted in you becoming her caregiver, but I just wanted to commend you for becoming her guardian. I find that very admirable.

As for me, I'm 24 as well. (Will be 25 end of this year.) I have no children. Well, at least no human children. I do have several "furry babies", and I live to spoil them.

Hello babybunny, I too am in AZ. I am in Tucson. If you type in petfinders.com it now brings up the GP rescue in AZ. Also sometimes the Phenoix ( why is it I live in AZ and can never spell Phenoix right?) Humane Society has GP's. I rescued 2 of mine from there. Welcome to the forum.

there are about 20 GP's to be rescued. Some are just adorable. I fell in love with one called Snowflake. But alas, I can't have anymore right now. The Humane Society did not have any listed at this time.

Love4Piggers~ Thanks. =) I hear you on making things right. I am very glad this board exsists otherwise, no telling how many piggers have been saved by it. Ours included. =) My birthday is at the end of this year as
well (Dec 1st). If had no children I'd probably have more fur babies as well. I did have a doggie that I had since I was 11, however she left us not too long ago. My Ravey cat was a rescue kitty but she came to us with an Upper Respiratory Infection and Ringworms (that she gave to me as well). I had the option of getting a new kitten instead or let them take her back for as long as needed to be treated. I could not bear to replace her, as she was instantly my baby. So 5 weeks later I got her back and haven't been apart since. Despite her being "mine" she and my son share a unique bond. It's quite amusing watching them play. My sister ins't keen on pets but even she can not deny the charm of Elvis and his mullet.

suzilovespiggie~ Thanks for the info. =) I have been keeping an eye on there for anything near by. I may give the piggiepoo place and ring and see if they have any way of doing a halfway meet perhaps. I did see Snowflake too, so sweet looking, too bad she is female though, hehe.[/FONT]
