My New Piggie - Sukki

Hey ya'll,

Well, my new piggie came home yesterday. She is an aby, but I think shes a mix with maybe some peruvian? Her hair is really long and crazy. Shes adorable! I adopted her from this girl who previously lived ina house with her boyfriend. They had 7 pigs, and then adopted 3 more. So, they had 10! Then they broke up and she moved into an apartment, piggies and all. So she decided the 3 new adoptees needed a new home. She could barely afford their hay, let alone any veggies or good quality pellets.

So shes home with me! I named her Sukki. Shes VERY scared though, and not very socialized. She was living in a petstore cage (the 7 others had a c&c, but she hadn't gotten a chance to make them one with moving) with her mama and sister (sister is a lethal :-( bad teeth and blind). So, I think she is having mama withdrawl.

I have a question though... could she possibly be deaf? She is VERY loud. She screams loudly, and sometimes I think shes just scared, but then she does it when nothing is going on... then again, she screams when the other piggies are begging for veggies, so maybe she just hasn't learned to control her volume ? Any ideas?

Just a little concerns with her sister being a lethal (all white, red eyes, two front upper teeth growing seperated, only one bottom tooth, and blind, and a bit daft...just not concerned with anything around her). Want to make sure the new baby is healthy.

Other than that, you GOTTA see her hair, its wicked :-) I laugh everytime she pops out of her Pigloo and shakes her head. She looks like she was electricuted!

Awww, congrats! I'm sorry to hear that she's having trouble adjusting, but that's to be expected. I'm not sure if she could be deaf or anything, though. Hrmmm. Is she socializing with the other piggies?

I'm glad you're able to provide her with a better home. Can't wait to see those pics!

She's in quarentine at the moment. But hopefully she'll fit right in!

Just wondering if she's likely to have health issues, since her sister is a lethal piggie.

Re: My New Piggie - Sukki

Do you know how old she is? She's screaming because she misses her momma. If they are very young, it's not uncommon for them to do that when they are first separated from their momma. It should calm down in a few days.

If you start her with veggies now, she should learn good eating habits.

It's hard to tell if she will have health problems.

Have you tried giving her a stuffed animal? When My Teddy had babies and I had to move the male out he was fussy. I gave him a stuffed monkey and it helped a lot. Gave him a place to cuddle.

Re: My New Piggie - Sukki

Well, I think she is between 6-8 weeks old. Still a baby! This is the first time away from mama, and she is alone in quarentine. Probablly just really scared?

I made her a little hidey sack out of fleece, and she has a pigloo which she seems to like.

She is doing better with the veggies. Lettuce seems to be her favorite though! We have a spring mix with lots of dark leafy greens, and also she likes cilantro. We tried tomatoes and bell pepper but she didn't touch it. I'll keep trying though! She never had veggies at her old home, so she'll warm up to them I'm sure.

Well, I'm planning on taking her to the vet to just double check. I'm concerned since her sister was a lethal, that she could have something wrong or something. :-(

Still have to get the pics downloaded, will be here soon!!
