Talking My Moral and my new pig!

Hello! I wanted to officially introduce myself even though I have replied to a thread a little while ago. I grew up loving animals and am still an animal crazy young woman.I love reading about various animals proper care requirements almost just for fun and that is what led me to this site. This is a wonderful informative website and unfortunately I only found out about this website after my Guinea Pig died many several years ago...His name was Blaster and he was a Black/Orange/White G-pig with a white Blaze running down his snout. Part of this post (I apologize if this isn't the correct place for this part of this thread)is to convey what I could have known to have prevented his life from being cut short since this is an educational site. Blaster was a small young unneutered male guinea pig who I Bought, yes bought, at a small petstore near my home. he was housed with two older g-pigs and a female g-pig (which I could have gotten instead of him,but thank goodness my mom told me to get the male) I was eleven at the time and unfortunately bought my supplies from the petstore. Fiesta Guinea Pig Food( more like JUNK food) and Katyee Timothy hay and Kaytee Alfalfa hay. As well as pine bedding (oh my god I am reading this and feel like the worst guinea pig parent.) and salt/mineral licks.. as well as vitamin drops which i stopped putting in his water after a while.. thank god i knew hardly enough to know that cedar bedding was bad.. those two years went by great i would take him out for grass to eat and each night he would squeak for his nightly smorgasbord of mixed leafy veggies and a carrot and playing with the neighbors gpig and rabbit(ugh, i was sooo naive) unfortunately i wasnt a very good younger aged parent for a guinea pig even giving alfalfa hay to my adult gpig.. he eventually died before his 2nd bday on my bday in my arms from a massisive tumor on his groin (which was probably caused by all of the cancer causing junk in the junky pet store food which also caused a major moth infestation in my bedroom at one point.. grrr) when the vet said it probably was a malignant tumor.. i feel horribley sad and guilty thinking about all of the simple things I could have done to prevent my g-pig from having his life shortened.. the moral i feel of this story is to NEVER do all the the things I did for my guinea pig because unknowingly i shortened his life and this story PROVES that children, even older eleven year old children no matter how much they care about their pet CANNOT be a primary caretaker for an animal that cannot care for itself..
Alright now the second part of this introduction thread is that my bf and i met at a bookstore in the petsection because he was looking for books on guinea pigs because he wanted to look for them as pets.. now later, i introduce him to the c & C website and we built a 2x5 C&C cage for our future gpigs and we went to the shelter and they only had a female gpig which was surrendered becuse the owners were moving overseas and shes approximately 1 yrs old we adopted her and bf named her Noboz (her name was originally Nibbles and he kept calling her bobos at the shelter so thus Noboz appeared.) I bought all sorts of yummy oxbow cavy cuisine pellets and all of the different types of oxbow hays they had at the no pets store we have here and carefresh bedding for the cage and this weekend we are going to go back to that shelter to see if they have another female pig for Noboz. yay! i am so excited..now THAT is how to take care of a guinea pig/s. Bf adores Noboz he takes her out of the cage and tries to introduce her to various fruits and veggies that we learned are good for them and i even made my own food chart for gpigs-based on the various ones i saw here which are great by the way!..he coos over her and she sits in his lap and just wheeks nonstop. i will keep you all updated on the rest of my now very improved guinea pig adventure. maybe i can figure out how to get some pics on the laptop for you all to see!
Thanks!
