hi :)

Hi everybody
I've got 13 Pigs ( 3 male and 10 female) and I live in Switzerland. I'm here to improve my english mostly because I'd like to be an au pair for a year. I've got guinea pigs for 7 years and it's a big hobby.

That's Lucky, my 3 years old male pig

Re: hi :)

That's a lot of pigs. Welcome to the forum.

Are your male pigs and female pigs separated? Or do you breed them?

Re: hi :)

That is great that you are not breeding your pigs, and that they are all living together in a happy herd!

Welcome to the forum! Your Lucky looks most handsome - we love nothing more here than pigtures! I'd love to see your cage set up too!

Re: hi :)

ok here are the pictures.

Thats the cage, but its' an old picture. There is a house missing (like the other one). The house has a very big isolation so they never have cold in winter and not to hot in summer.

Thats inside.

Ans thats inside of the house with my guinea pigs when they were young

another picture of the house

Re: hi :)

Nice cage setup - looks huge!

P.s. When you said
"The house has a very big isolation so they never have cold in winter and not to hot in summer."
You meant insulation didn't you?

Re: hi :)

Yes I meant insulation. In german isolation and insulation is the same word.

@gpigluver14
Yeah I let them outside for 7 years now and luckily I've never made a bad experience.

I think you hit on the key thing here - luck. You can't always count on luck, which is why it's better to take precautions to prevent bad things from happening. I would suggest and encourage you to move your pigs inside. It's not only safer, but there's really no other way for the pigs to be a part of the family.

Re: hi :)

Do the boys not fight with eachother? I always heard that you can't have more than one boy together when there are girls present. I would love to have 13 pigs all living together. It seems like everytime I add one to my group they all seem happier.

Cute pigs!

Re: hi :)

PiggieMamaKelly
Yeah a lot of people think this but it's wrong. Important is to have enogh place and enough girls and than it works. Of course it depends on the boys it doesn't work with every boy. My boys really like each other, and they know each other since they were babys.

Susan9608
Oh does it have to be? I really hoped I don't have to defend me, but I have to...Well then: Its' NOT luck, of course not! How I said they have a good insulated() house so in the house is NEVER very cold. The pigs have time to acclimatize themself from winter to summer and from summer to winter. I mean it's not suddenly cold or hot. We don't have very cold winters, this year we hadn't any snow. Anyway they doesn't carry about cold weather, they dislike more the hot in summer. In summer they have always (at any time) the shadow of tree in there cage so they aren't in the sun. And I open the houses, so in the houses is not to hot. I can say my pigs are always healthy (they weren't seriously ill since I've got them) and strong. I don't have to cut the claws of my pigs because they do it themselvs. Even my old ones are still popcorning around. All my pigs are part of the family and all are very friendly. And of course the cage is very save so no other animal (like fox etc...) can go in.
Look I have seen that you (in america general?) have another opinion than in europe. Maybe is because of the different climate, I don't know. I accept your opinion but please accept my as well. My pigs really enjoy there life I can see that every day. In the house I couldn't give them I life with that much place to run and play than I can give them outside. You really can let your pigs outside but you have to know how.

Hi Schneefloeckli

Wow, we've got a pretty similar name. Only the language is different.

Thirteen pigs is really a lot! But the cage looks huge so I suppose it works out well. I'd love to have that much space for my guinea pigs as well (I researched on several pages on the recommended size for cavy cages before ordering one, though).

I think I'd prefer to have my cavies in my home. Especially during the winter time. But if you're a person who goes out at any weather and if your pigs are safe in their
