Re: FINALLY!!! My new piggie!!!!!! YIPEEE!

He does look lovely!

Just to make sure of his sex - have a look through this link:

Guinea Lynx :: Sexing Guinea Pigs

It is great that you are getting him a companion - and that your friend's guinea will have some company too! There's loads of info here about introducing boars, have you seen this page?

The three weeks quarintine will be a great time to plan and build a fantastic new home for them both! Have a look through the galleries for inspiration! And make sure you let us know how you get on! (including lots of pigtures on the way!)

Re: FINALLY!!! My new piggie!!!!!! YIPEEE!

What a handsome little guy, and I love his name! I'm so glad he doesn't have to live next to a boa constrictor any more. That's so nice about adopting your friend's piggy. Most of my babies came from other homes where they were no longer wanted. What does this older gentleman pig look like & what is his name?

Re: FINALLY!!! My new piggie!!!!!! YIPEEE!

Pet stores often missex guinea pigs. It is best to either check the gender yourself, or have an experienced vet from Guinea Lynx's vet list check it out. Guinea Lynx :: GL's Vet List

You need a C&C. That probably isn't even big enough for him. The bigger you make it, the more pigs that can fit into it.

Also, the reason why people say males don't go with each other is because there is a myth that males will fight with each other. This is untrue, as long as you don't have a female with them, or that they don't have any dominance troubles, which probably depends on age. 2 adult pigs can have some trouble with domination. Young pigs can try to take over. Young pigs usually get over it, though. It really matters about the exact age of the younger pig. I'm pretty sure there is a page somewhere about young pigs trying to take over, so you can get the exact age. It is good to put a young adult and a smaller pig (depending on age of the smaller one.)

Maybe you could try to talk to the shelter about what they're doing wrong. They'll probably care, unlike pet stores, which are usually only about $, and not the wellbeing of the pet.

Re: FINALLY!!! My new piggie!!!!!! YIPEEE!

It will help with dominance issues if you can build a bigger cage before his friend arrives. It will be a whole new excitement for you and Nikko when he cab run jump and explore, but for now you are doing fine. He is much better off in his new home than he was in the mouse cage on a wire floor. Make sure he gets floor time for exercise. I love your enthusiasm!

Thank you!

Jarbax-

Thank you for the links! I will go check those both out!

Landhermie-

Thank for the information. Your right, most pet store owners are all about the money, but not my friend at least.—Sounds weird because “then why do they have a pet store”, but they are very nice and understanding, etc. besides the have of having a pet store in the first place, they wouldn’t screw you over or anything.--All their animals are in excellent condition!

Sealgirl95-

Thank you! And my friend’s piggy’s name is Ansel. I don’t know much about him, but he is almost completely blind and deaf. He is a long haired white(?) guinea pig. His buddies passed on earlier this year, so he is in need of a new buddy.

I will start working on creating a bigger cage for them both.

Yes, I have not given him actually floor time yet, because he is still nervous sometimes, and he is hard to catch. But I will soon! I held him today for a while and he sat in my lap watching the cats and eating his lettuce while I worked on the computer.
