Hello and looking for cage advice Hello everyone, my name is Rebecca, and I actually don't own a guinea pig! I have many other pets though, including my retired racing greyhound- Melody, two pound kitties-Rupert and Monty, a pygmy hedgehog- Sophie, a tortoise- Tyr, two fancy mice- Caroline and Ella, a ten gallon aquarium, a bunch of gerbils, and three African pygmy mice who I just got and haven't named yet. Anyway, the reason why I found this forum is because I have been doing a lot of research to try to make/buy a pen so that my tortoise, who normally lives inside in a 4x6 foot enclosure, can live outside for the summer, if it ever warms up here in New England! I have found a couple of rabbit/guinea pig outdoor enclosures made out of wood and screen that would be great, but they are very expensive. I remembered seeing the C&C cages and was hoping someone could give me some advice about whether I could make on of these suitable for a tortoise outdoors. Tyr is still very small, only 4 and a half inches long, and not all that strong, so I'm not too worried about him escaping, but I need something weather proof, and also predator proof. Thanks, and I hope I'm putting this in the right place.

Re: Hello and looking for cage advice Welcome to the forum! I'm no expert on tortoises, but I don't think C&C are stable enough to be outside. They aren't very heavy and could easily be knocked or blown over. They are by no means weather proof, either. Could you buy a few pieces of wood and staple mesh on? This might not be as expensive and would be sturdier too (and you can add a covered wooden area). Maybe a tortoise expert will come along soon. Enjoy your stay here!

Re: Hello and looking for cage advice Hello and welcome! I'm sorry but I'm no expert on tortoises...But I agree with foolonthehill, I don't think a C&C cage would be suitable for outdoors. If you want to save money on a store bought cage, and you're good with wood you could make a cage, out of wood and mesh. By the way, Tulia&Susie, she lives in New England, not Maine.

Re: Hello and looking for cage advice Welcome!! Sorry.. I really dont know anything about turtles.. but you might be able to make a C&C cage for him. Although you would have to bring it in if it rains/snows becuse it would rust.. Oh, and guineapiglover14.. actually Maine is in New England.. New England - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
