Meet Dexie There is finally a new addition to the HGs! Meet 6 week old Dexter-Pippin: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() There is something I need to say here though. He is not a rescue. I stayed at home yesterday while my parents went out. They came back and my mum had bought a 6 week old male pig from the pet store after thinking on it for a couple hours. I didn't even know they were going to the pet store at all. I was annoyed, as she knows I prefer to rescue, yet she still bought him. I thought over everything for ages while I got him settled in, whether it was right or wrong to keep him etc. I came to the conclusion that, while he is from a store, I didn't have a say in the purchase. I can't send this pig back just because my mum went against my beliefs. So I am keeping him and looking after him, despite where he came from and the ethics etc. behind it. Please understand that. First impressions are he is healthy, most definitely male. He is in a pet store cage for quarantine and until he gets a bit bigger, then he will move into a C&C. We will figure out exactly how to house him in the next few days. He will most likely be neutered when he's old enough, and that opens the door up for a lady friend (or 2) in the future. His character is a strong one. Very inquisitive, cheeky, and typically boyish. He loves cuddles and nose/chin tickles. His coloring is Tortie mix (kind of a black/cream/tan/white mixture) and is either a Crested or Coronet (too early to tell, but I am inclined towards Crested). He weighs 400g, which is pretty good for a 6 week old (I think), has eaten some romaine, cucumber, carrot and tried green pepper, and I have set his birthdate as 23rd February 2007. I'm not expecting pats on the back over the way he arrived, but he is here now and it wouldn't be fair on him to return him. I hope you can all understand that and enjoy him as much as I am learning to.

Re: Meet Dexie He is very handsome! Don't feel bad since you were not included in the decision to purchase him. Your Mom's heart was in the right place so don't be too hard on her. Just let her know that in the future, you want to be involved. I have a little girl that's about his age. Steven

Re: Meet Dexie Welcome Dexter Pippin! You are a very lucky wee boy! I know you're upset about that he wasn't rescued, and that you have been looking for a rescued piggy recently. I know that you wouldn't have gone to a pet shop to buy a pig. Sometimes our parents can do things against our wishes - every bit as much as we can rebel against theirs! Perhaps your mum was really keen to make you happy, and couldn't resist, where you would have done? (We parents would do anything for our children - just like we do for our pigs!) One of my herd is a pet-shop piggy, and wouldn't now be without her for the world! I don't doubt that you have agonised over the decision to keep Dexter, and you have come up with the right choice for you. That is all that matters. He is absolutely gorgeous - and tiny! I agree that he looks like a crested rather than a coronet (though you will know better than I!) Just like Marble (my pet shop pig)! His colouring is lovely - and he looks in good condition too. Look forward to hearing more about him, and can't wait for more pigtures soon! ![]()

Re: Meet Dexie Here's a few new pics of him today. I love the first one, it shows him off just perfect. ![]() ![]() ![]() See how he has a tan and cream coloring? He has a tiny white patch on the front of his crest. Thanks for the comments.

Re: Meet Dexie Look at those ears! He's adorable. I feel pretty certain you've already discussed your disappointment over where he came from with your parents, so nothing more really needs to be said. You're a great piggy parent though, so I'm sure Dexie will be well taken care of in his forever home.

Re: Meet Dexie Ahh, he is cute! We can't be responsible for the actions of others. You just had to decide whether to keep him or not - it was what you could live with and feel comfortable with. I can understand, it is one thing to look at them at the store or a situation such as that but another when they come through your front door and placed right into your hands. You are put into a moral dilemna. My parents put me in the same situation in January. My daughter has wanted a Chihuahua for 2 years. I said "no" because I am not a fan of little dogs (my special dog is a German Shepard). One night in January, they show up at my door with a 6-week-old Chihuahua puppy. Of course, they bought her from a Chihuahua breeder. When my daughter's face lit up at seeing the puppy and she said, "I finally have my Tinkerbell" (the name she had saved for a Chihuahua), I couldn't say no, take it back. My parents were trying to make her happy - I realized that and I wasn't going to take that from my daughter. The thought of it coming from a breeder was unsettling for me and I felt I was put into a moral dilemna as you were. I decided to let it go because my parents just didn't understand how I felt about it. They thought I was crazy for driving 3.5 hours roundtrip for my two girl guinea pigs. You just can't change some people's opinions. You can only hope they will respect yours and be willing to listen to you. The last 3 months with the puppy admittedly have been nice and I would not change it. My parents "mistake" ended up not being so bad after all. My daughter loves that puppy more than anything right now and it is a good companion for her.

Re: Meet Dexie My gosh, he's cute & he does look cheeky! Cute little piggies (and they're all cute!) know a secret about us cavy lovers. Once they get a toe in the door, they are staying. Your Mom probably just intended to hold him for a minute. That's all it takes. Just be glad there weren't three of them! Try to make a deal with your Mum that next time you will rescue, and try to keep her out of pet stores!

Re: Meet Dexie Adorable - don't feel badly at this point for how he came to be in your care. That's my 2 cents.

Re: Meet Dexie He's so cute! I love that color combination! Since I have no pigs of my own, I have to live vicariously through others, and yours are some of my favorites!

Re: Meet Dexie He is definitely cute - and don't worry over how you got him, just enjoy him!! As everyone else has said, you were not involved in the decision so the only thing to do now is to love and care for him!
